FC Barcelona’s youth team won the King’s Cup for the 15th time last night, beating Mallorca 2-1 in the La Fuensanta stadium in Cuenca. This was the third time the teams had met this season and both teams felt the pressure of the occasion.
In a hotly disputed first half, Mallorca took the lead on 20 minutes when Axel’s shot hit the back of the net after a great counterattack down the right. But Barca had their moments, too. Carroza’s shot grazed the post, while man-of-the-match Verdú enjoyed a number of chances.
After the break, Barca took control and pushed Mallorca back. The equalizer came in the 56th minute, Carroza heading in at the far post. Then in the 81st minute, Sergio García went past two players to score the Cup winning goal for Jordi Roura’s men.
FC Barcelona: Rubén Martínez; Dani, Rodri, Fran, Alberto Carroza, Andreu, Tato, Joan Verdú, Sergio García, Javito i Manolo.
Mallorca:Moyà; Iván, Camacho, Ramis, Moreno, Cano, Cheché, Juanlu, César, Àxel i Busi.
finally a trophy this season
