I thought we could discuss the talents at the Balkans. I'd apreciate if you could enter with info from Yugoslavia, Romania, Bosnja, Croatia, etc. I'd write about the Bulgarian ones.
Since the level of our championship is not that great the teams from West Europe preffer to buy young talents from us. We sold one guy to Celtic for 4 mil$. He is Stiliyan Petrov (5/XII/ 79). He is deffensive midfielder, and chases very well the opponents midfielders. He has a nice shot and is an ex-CSKA player. Another guy is Martin Petrov who now is at Servette. He (15/I?79) is a very fast left winger, and he also has nice shot, yet it's more technical than the one of Stiliyan who depends more on power. There are two guys in the youth squads of Bayern and Herta. The first is Krum Bibishkov (2/IX/82) and he is a central forward with nice pace, speed, goal scoring ability, dribble, and shot. He is from the youth squad of Pirin. The other is Aleksander Mladenov (son of the Bulgarian National coach). He is left winger with very nice technique (I played against him), born 1982.
Speaking of Pirin there are three more great talents from there. Dimitar Berbatov, recently in CSKA, he was born in 30/I/81. He is a cntral forward with nice technique, but he is not very fast. And he is not very strong physically though he is 189 cm. The other is Georgi Bachev- 18/IV/77, he is very fast left winger. He has very nice speed technique, and a shot at speed. He is now in Levski, and we have to wait him to return back from a heel injury. The last is still in Pirin. He is named Georgi Bizhev (6/VII/81). He is more or less like Kezman. In the break his team was in a tournament with Partizan, and the organizers doubted if Mateja deserved the prize better player than him. He operates well on speed, with nice dribble, and shot. And he is more of a wing player (cauz this is the place he can use the best his speed when he is not very strong physically).
Last I'd mention a guy who had a very promising career. He is Yovov from the kids of Levski and the youths of Bayern. He played three seasons in Levski, he showed amazing dribble, and his fints are just great. He is another quick player, though he is not a good scorer. Never mind he went to Munhen 1860 at the age of 21, and went into conflict with the coach, he did not train for some time. Then he returned to Bulgaria. Then again he did not train. And he refused an offer from Spartak Moskow. And now he is back in the country showing some of his previous talent.

Good idea giani! Nice to hear there are some good Bulgarian youths up and coming. :) :)

I'm going to cheat a bit and copy and paste the Romanian Top 20 Youth Players List from a footballtransfers.co.uk. Thanx to Laurentiu Popescu & Andrei Besutiu for this list!!

First 10:

1. Name: Adrian Mutu
Current Club: Internationale Milano
Date of Birth: Jan 08, 1979
Position: Forward
Comment: At the moment Adrian Mutu is probably the most talented Romanian youngster. Even though he no longer plays in the Romanian Division, he is still top scorer with 18 goals in as many matches. This winter he transferred from Dinamo Bucharest to Internationale Milano after turning down offers from both Parma and PSV. A regular of the U-21 team for some time now, Mutu has yet to earn a cap for the senior squad. That will soon change: the coach of the Romanian National Team, Emeric Ienei, has already announced his intention to select the youngster for the next friendly match.

2. Name: Bogdan Lobont
Current Club: Ajax Amsterdam
Date of Birth: Jan 18, 1978
Position: Goalkeeper
Comment: Bogdan Lobont just transferred from Rapid Bucharest (Rom I) to Ajax Amsterdam where he should be a strong and immediate competitor for 35-year old Grim. Currently he is the second choice keeper after veteran Bogdan Stelea, for the Romanian National Team, but many expect him to take the top spot soon. Even if he will not appear in the starting line-up at Euro 2000, only an injury could keep this talent away from the squad.

3. Name: Marius Niculae
Current Club: Dinamo Bucharest
Date of Birth: June 15, 1981
Position: Forward
Comment: Before Adrian Mutu and former Romanian international Jean Vladoiu left Dinamo, Marius Niculae was mostly a substitute. Now he is the main attraction, and everyone expects him to make the two forgotten. Although he is both tall and strong, Niculae also possesses good dribbling skills. He found the net on his debuts for both the U-21 team and the senior squad. This winter he was the target of Lecce (Seria A), but he refused to sign for them when the club presented him with a contract he did not understand and pressured him to leave Dinamo right away and not in the summer like first agreed. The Italian sports paper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” recently said that Fiorentina would really like to get his signature.

4. Name: Catalin Munteanu
Current Club: Salamanca (Spn II)
Date of Birth: Jan 20, 1979
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Catalin Munteanu is just another fine player from Steaua Bucharest, but unlike most, he left the club at a very young age (18) in order to join the Spanish side Salamanca. He possesses great technical abilities and a deft shot. Scoring from long range and making skilful passes are both part of his arsenal. After Gheorghe Hagi retires from the national team later this year, many will expect Munteanu to take his place as the creative playmaker in midfield. As captain of the U-21 team, he is without a doubt its most important player.

5. Name: Cristian Chivu
Current Club: Ajax Amsterdam
Date of Birth: Oct 26, 1980
Position: Defender
Comment: The former coach of Internationale Milano, Mircea Lucescu, once said that Cristian Chivu could be a strong leader for his generation. The talented defender started his career with troubled CSM Resita (Rom I) and it was no surprise to anyone when the lad left the club. He was first offered to Rapid Bucharest, but they failed to recognize the emerging talent and refused, so he ended up at Universitatea Craiova (Rom I). Soon after, Ajax made a 4.5 million USD offer for him. Apart from being talented, he is also very flexible being able to play a multitude of positions, including sweeper, defensive midfielder, left and central defender -his favorite. Recently he has been plagued by numerous red cards (4 in all since his transfer), but he says that they are due to the way the defence is positioned at Ajax and not because he is too aggressive. While being a regular member of the U-21 team he has also managed to earn a few caps for the senior squad.

6. Name: Alin Stoica
Current Club: Anderlecht Bruxelles
Date of Birth: Dec 10, 1979
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Alin Stoica is very similar to his former teammate from Steaua Bucharest - Catalin Munteanu. The beginning of his career in Belgium was not too successful, and he once said in an interview with the Romanian sports paper “ProSport” that the Belgian League was not suited for technical players like himself. Now, things are looking up; he is very close to a regular place on the team and has also proven himself to be a ependable goal scorer. The club recently refused an offer for him from the Greek club Olympiakos. At the U-21 team, Stoica is an indispensable player in midfield.

7. Name: Erik Lincar
Current Club: Steaua Bucharest
Date of Birth: Oct 16, 1978
Position: Midfielder
Comment: While Emeric Ienei was the coach of Steaua, Lincar was always an important member of the team. He is the kind of player that does not attract a lot of attention; he rarely scores or makes incredible plays, but he has a central role in recuperating balls in midfield and launching attacks. The new coach, Victor Piturca, has not yet said if he plans to use him on a regular basis, but chances are he will. Steaua said that a while back Atletico Madrid made a bid for him, but
they were not satisfied with the price offered.

8. Name: Florin Cernat
Current Club: Dinamo Bucharest
Date of Birth: Mar 10, 1980
Position: Midfielder
Comment: As soon as he was noticed, the Romanian press nicknamed Cernat the ‘diamond’ because of his exceptional qualities. While he was playing for Otelul Galati (Rom I), he was given a central role on the team even though he was only a teenager. Consistent and brilliant appearances attracted the attention
of Bayern Munich and Olympic Marseille, both of which made unsuccessful bids for him. He instead opted to play in the Romanian League a while longer, but with a club worthy of his talent - Dinamo Bucharest. More recently, the Seria A clubs Inter and Parma showed interest by sending scouts to watch his every move,
but until the big transfer abroad, Cernat has to prove to Dinamo’s coach, Cornel Dinu, that he deserves a place there. He is a regular of the U-21 team and should soon make the move to the senior squad.

9. Name: Mihai Tararache
Current Club: Grasshoppers Zurich
Date of Birth: Oct 25, 1978
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Tararache has proven himself to be a talented and hardworking player at both Dinamo Bucharest and Grasshoppers. He is the former captain of the U-21 team for which he will soon become ineligible to play. Unfortunately, it does not seem like he will be making the transition to the senior squad yet, but there is plenty of time for this youngster.

10.
Name: Vlad Munteanu
Current Club: FCM Bacau (Rom I)
Date of Birth: Jan 16, 1981
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Talented attacking midfielder, Munteanu is in the sight of many big Romanian clubs. He erupted in the spring of 1999, but, right now, his form is fading after his transfer to Real Madrid fell through.

No problem giani. AND argentina, here is another "30" pages for you :) (again same source)

Next 10:

11. Name: Razvan Rat
Current Club: Rapid Bucharest
Date of Birth: June 26, 1981
Position: Midfielder
Comment: A very talented and promising young player. Although he is a regular of the U-21 team, he has yet to earn a regular place in the starting lineup of Rapid where he has to compete against players like Ovidiu Sabau and Danut Lupu.

12. Name: Claudiu Dragan
Current Club: Dinamo Bucharest
Date of Birth: Mar 18, 1979
Position: Forward
Comment: One of the most promising young players in Romania. He had a very good season with UTA, in the 2nd Romanian Division, which earned him a transfer to Dinamo Bucharest, the leader of the first division. On his second match for the team he scored a nice double.

13. Name: Cornel Buta
Current Club: Dinamo Bucharest
Date of Birth: Nov 1st, 1977
Position: Defender
Comment: During the winter break of the Romanian Championship Cornel Buta attracted attention for all the wrong reasons. After proving a great talent at a very young age, he was the center of a huge scandal between Romania’s top two clubs; the player had signed a contract with Rapid Bucharest while his club (FC Brasov) had sold him to Dinamo. He ended up with the latter where he should be included in starting line-up. Ienei selected him to part in a training camp
in Cyprus over the winter with the senior squad, bur he failed to play at his full potential.

14. Name: Tiberiu Lung
Current Club: Steaua Bucharest
Date of Birth: Dec 24, 1978
Position: Goalkeeper
Comment: For Tiberiu Lung, being a good goalkeeper runs in the family. His father, Silviu Lung, was the Romanian #1 for many years. He started his career at Universitatea Craiova where his father works as a coach, but tensions with the club’s management forced a move to Steaua Bucharest in the winter. There, it seems like Victor Piturca has full faith in the young lad, placing him in the starting line-up from the very start. At the U-21 team Lung was usually in the shadow of Bogdan Lobont.

15. Name: Florentin Dumitru
Current Club: Steaua Bucuresti
Date of Birth: May 25, 1977
Position: Defender
Comment: A very talented and consistent defender. During the Euro U-21 competition he was one of the most capped players. Florentin Dumitru is expected to be part of the senior squad in the near future.

16. Name: Bogdan Mara
Current Club: FC Arges Dacia Pitesti (Rom)
Date of Birth: Sep 09, 1977
Position: Forward
Comment: Bogdan Mara is a very talented young forward. He started his career from Inter Sibiu (2nd division), but everyone knew that a move to a much better team was imminent. In 1998, he was transferred to Dinamo Bucharest, but tough competition forced a loan to Farul Constanta which only lasted for half a
season. His next stop was at FC Arges Pitesti where he attracted a lot of attention, even from Emerich Ienei, which selected him for Cyprus tournament this winter. Now, Dinamo is very eager to get its loan player back.

17. Name: Mihai Nemteanu
Current Club: Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt (Rom)
Date of Birth: Mar 15, 1977
Position: Forward
Comment: Product of the youth center of Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt, he become a regular in the surprise team of the Romanian first division. He replaced the veteran Daniel Scanteie and forced his coach to retire the star Constantin Enache to midfield to make a place for him in attack.

18. Name: Adrian Olah
Current Club: FC National Bucharest (Rom)
Date of Birth: April 30, 1981
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Olah is a young central midfielder, coming from the youth center of FC National Bucharest. He played some matches as regular at his team, leaving a good impression. But, after the recovery of his older colleagues, he was left mostly used in the reserve team.

19. Name: Tiberiu Ghioane
Current Club: Rapid Bucharest (Rom)
Date of Birth: June 18, 1981
Position: Midfielder
Comment: Tiberiu Ghioane was in the center of a huge scandal in the Romanian soccer, between his ex-club, Tractorul Brasov, and Rapid Bucharest. Finally, he was transferred to Rapid Bucharest, where he played some matches as substitute, leaving a pretty good impression. But he has a long way to go before he becomes a regular at Rapid.

20. Name: Alexandru Iliuciuc
Current Club: FC Farul Constanta (Rom)
Date of Birth: Aug 28, 1977
Position: Goalkeeper
Comment: Formed at Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt, Iliuciuc was sold to Farul Constanta, being considered not good enough for Ceahlaul. But, at Constanta, he was a regular, gaining some matches in the Under 21 Romanian team for the Olympics preliminaries.

Florentin Dumitru will be the next Dan Petrescu. He was bought by Steaua from Astra for about 400.000 $ and 25% of a future transfer.

Also Iliuciuc plays in my home town team, Farul. He has extraordinary parades and interceptions but he receives silly and easy goals.
