My last year's prediction wasn't very accurate, but perhaps I'll be more lucky this time ;)

It all starts in a few weeks' time. Friendlies vs. Slovenia and Faroe Islands don't seem very exciting, but Polish fans are curious if we can maintain our unbeaten record ;)

Slovenia games ends 1:1. Zurawski scores from a penalty spot. Then we beat Faroes 2:0, but neither Janas nor the press are content with the performance given by our domestic squad.

Groclin - Bordeaux game on the 26th February in Grodzisk. Expectations are high, but Darcheville scores after 8 minutes and it's 1:0 for the French. Groclin attacks. Zajac is active on the right wing, Rasiak tries to use his heading skills, but Bordeaux defence stays calm. Equallizer comes after a scramble in the box in 80th minute. The scorer is Moskala, who substituted disappointing Sikora. Nobody is happy with the result, and a few Groclin players complain about the spectators who did not give them enough support. Drzymala fines them for these words.

In the second leg Groclin must attack. It's a very good game, with a lot of scoring chances. Unfortunately, we are disillusioned after the break. Two goals for Bordeaux and Groclin is out.

Ekstraklasa is dominated by Wisla and Amica. Wisla's squad looks outstanding but apparently they need time to consolidate. After a ridiculous draw with Swit there are rumours that Kasperczak will have to quit. Amica, on the other hand, gathers points consistenly. However, the clash between these two in Krakow ends 4:1 to Wisla. Groclin chases for the leaders, but it's difficult to make up for the points lost in autumn. Legia is dropping from top :(

Another international is vs. Ireland. Olisadebe's comeback raises discussion between these who want him in Polish NT and those who don't. Well... He scores twice in the first half and is unstoppable for the Irish! In the second half Mila scores after a beautifully executed free kick and finally Lewandowski heads the ball home. 4:0!...

May. Ekstraklasa is won by Wisla, with Amica, Groclin and Legia (cup winners :D ) making it to the Uefa Cup. The most spectacular move in the summer break is Rasiak signing a contract with Werder Bremen.

On the 29th May we face Greece. A very poor performance by both sides, both the Poles wanting holidays and the Greeks aiming Portugal. We win 1:0 though.

Early days of July and another fiendly. We travel to New York to play the US. It's supposed to be the final test before WC qualifiers and... we fail it. 3:1 for Americans is the score. Piotr Piechniak saves our honour in 75th minute. Janas is furious that some players refused to come and play in this game. The press sees no excuse in it, but eventually everybody agrees that it wasn't the most important match of the year.

In the meantime unlucky draw in CL qualifiers. Wisla are to play Juventus, who failed to qualify directly :stress: It's 2:0 Juventus at Stadio dell'Alpi. Trezeguet and Di Vaio are the scorers. The second leg starts great when Uche dribbles on the right and passes to Zurawski who blasts the ball in right top corner of the goal. But, despite ferocious attack, it's all Wisla could do that evening. Another Uefa Cup campaign, but without Zurawski who signs with Fc Nantes.

On 4th of September to travel to Northern Ireland and face the hosts. They take us by surprise and Healy scores after 15 minutes. But we take control over midfield and create one scoring chance after the other. 40 minutes gone and Kryszalowicz beats Carroll. In 52nd minute Krzynowek sends a perfect ball on Zurawski's right foot, 2:1 Poland. Ten minutes after that Zurawski finishes off counter attack, and in 70th minute Szymkowiak strikes from distance to make it four. Kenedy beats Dudek three minutes later and we win 4:2. Janas saves some players, including Olisadebe, who (surprise, surprise) fails to be fit once again.

Wednesday, September 8th. Those over-confident, boastful English one our way again :groan: Our line-up is: Dudek, Zewlakow, Glowacki, Bak, Hajto, Krzynowek, Mila, Sobolewski, Karwan, Olisadebe, Zurawski. Kosowski and Niedzielan are injured, Rasiak is out of form. We are close to taking the lead at the early stage, but Karwan and Olisadebe miss great chances. English NT looks unwell this evening. But they increase the pace as the game goes on and Rooney cheers the home crowd in 35th minute. In the 2nd Olisadebe and Sobolewski are off, Kryszalowicz and Szymkowiak on. 65th minute. Krzynowek takes a free kick. The ball curles towards the goal, nobody touches it, Robinson doesn't move... Don't you try to stop this ball! Yes!!!1:1!... The only thought now is, will we survive English storm?... Well, it seems more likely five minutes later when Mila passes to Zurawski, who is hooked by Ferdinand - penalty kick!... Zuraw refuses to take the responsibility so Hajto does it. And it's in!... The victory is close, very close! But what a magnificent freee kick by Beckham in 85th minute!... Damn it... Nerves, nerves... Final whistle... 2:2 stays to the end!... What a pity, the historical win was only inches away...

Another games are vs. Austria and Wales. October 9th is not a good day for Polish football. Austria lost to England and beat Azerbaijan with great difficulty. It seems to be obvious fact that we are a far better team, so we go to take a victory!... And we lose 2:1 :( Weissenberger and Haas score for Austria in the 1st half. We are giving a really disastrous performance. In the 2nd half Rasiak scores, but it's only a consolation goal. What a stupid loss... And a cold shower for players and fans.

Life goes on. Four days later it's Wales game. We can't lose it. But our players seem down-hearted after they got defeated a few days before. Janas should change something, should give a chance to Saganowski and Madej, the press demand it and the fans want it as well. But he is just too stubborn to do it. And... he's right! A very tough, exhausting game. Wales are dominant for most of the game, but Kryszalowicz scores in 71st minute. We're back on track :)

Seven points after four games is not bad, even though England have ten and Austria nine. Anything can happen in 2005.

In the Uefa Cup, Polish teams fight hard. Wisla makes it to the 3rd round and await games with Atletico Madrid in spring. Legia, Groclin and Amica make it to the 2nd round but they lose to, respectively, Dortmund, Pireus and PSG.

December... Well, again long months of suffering from lack of football... :(
