Albion boss Bryan Robson has threatened to cancel Christmas next
year - as a direct result of Bernt Haas ending up in hospital after this
year's festive bash.
Robson has vowed to deal with Haas after the Switzerland defender
reportedly ended up drunk in hospital in fancy dress as Robin Hood after an
alleged drinking binge at the players' Christmas party.
And the Baggies manager looks set to follow in the footsteps of
previous boss Gary Megson, who scrapped a bash for his players in 2002 and
cancelled celebrations the year after.
"The days of Christmas parties and that kind of thing have gone,"
admitted Robson.
"The players are in the pubic eye and I think most clubs now are
getting to the stage where they will tell players that it's a thing of the
past.
"In my playing days if you sat in a place, had a drink and were quiet
then you wouldn't be in any trouble.
"But there always seems to be trouble about nowadays because of the
high profile of the players. Bernt Haas will be dealt with internally within
the club."
Haas is the latest offender in a catalogue of Premiership party
poopers this Christmas.
Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton turned into a seasonal scrapper
after a festive bust-up which left young team-mate Jamie Tandy requiring
hospital treatment after having a cigar stubbed in his eye.
Two fights allegedly took place at Manchester United's Christmas party
when winger Darren Fletcher became embroiled in a scuffle in which Rio
Ferdinand, Gary Neville and Wes Brown were also involved.
Controversial Newcastle forward Craig Bellamy was also at the centre
of allegations after the club received a complaint from the Ritz in London,
where some players enjoyed an unofficial Christmas celebration.
Players' union boss Gordon Taylor has already claimed traditional
Christmas parties are an accident waiting to happen.
