We are close to get an answer to the question in the title of the thread.

One day before, Ventura starts to rave: “We have analyzed everything we did. We are in the situation we predicted: we are inferior to Spain and in the best four runners-up. We can do it, with an increase in self-esteem, in a scenario which was somehow predicted and clear from the beginning". This is a speech which could be acceptable before the first leg, but now...
The last time Ventura said something similar Sampdoria failed the promotion to serie A. I hope for us, not for him, that this time will be different and that he will be in the condition to brag that he knew from the beginning that Italy would qualify to the world cup.

The one satisfaction now that we are out is that Ventura and Tavecchio will be forced to resign. I would have prefered a qualification, but since it is not possible... dump Tavecchio and Ventura!

Ventura has contract till 2020 btw... because an idiot decided to prolong his contract before Italy qualified to the world cup.
Yeah this is down right atrocious. If Ventura refuses to resign then he will have to be sacked and get paid another 3 years for not getting Italy past the qualifying round. His agent is either a genius or Tavecchio got a little pay off.

Surely they can fire him and pay him out?

I'm hoping for a mutual termination of some sorts, maybe some type of performance clause that he failed in getting the team to the World Cup would of been triggered. One can hope.

Or maybe he understands the futility in staying on and does the admirable thing and steps down. One can hope...but considering how he seems to blame everybody else for his mismanagement I doubt he will take this tact.

Unless the FIGC tells him to resign to save face. Lets see how smart he is.

Im not even that sad tbh. Signs have been there. With Ventura Italy would have had another poor WC. And we have already been there and done that.

My hope was that they qualify but somehow replace him before the tournament.

Yeah, when you have FIGC saying that it would be apocalyptic for Italy not playing in the WC I think its only a matter of time. However I think those dinosaurs at the top of the food chain help create this epic failure.

Ventura promises to resign if im correct, Toni?

Surprised there is no police escort with him.
Yeah, but later we were told he denied. He is not going to resign unless FIGC pay for the remaining 8 months. It's odd that he is not escorted. I know a lot of fools who could have the bad idea to slap him and I'm sure there are many more I don't know who would do it. He is probably using mostly cars for movements, that for sure. Television, radio and internet go on repeating that right now he is the guest of his father-in-law in Bari. I guess sooner or later someone will get the hint and visit him. If I were him I'd move abroad as soon as possible in order to avoid troubles to his father-in-law. And if I were his father-in-law I would suggest winter is a bad season in the cold Europe.

In the meanwhile I add fuel to the fire: rumors are that the day before the game, at Appiano Gentile, the "senators" of the team tried to convince Ventura to adopt 3-4-3 with Insigne. Ventura replied that he is the CT and he is the one to make choices. No surprise that the arrogant prick chose not to adopt 3-4-3 and Insigne didn't play at all.

It's like he is a criminal to me.

Presumably had the contract not been renewed in August he could have been sacked after the games against Spain and Macedonia in September, or even after the group games concluded in October. If that is right, the fatal moment in the whole qualifying campaign was the decision to renew his contract without any good reason, a decision that has never been fully explained.

Tacecchio has survived for now, but I wonder whether pressure from inside the game and especially from outside (government, SkyItalia, sponsors) could change that situation.

I am concerned that Tavecchio will propose the name of the new coach to the next meeting on 28 November. I think there needs to be some reflection and discussions before the next coach is appointed, someone with a clear blueprint to reach the semi-finals of euro2020 and qualify for WC2022. I do not trust Tavecchio to manage anything to do with the NT effectively.

Ullivieri disgusted me with his comments after today's meeting, "I didn't like Malago's comments about Tavecchio, I no longer recognise him as my head. Qualification was not part of Tavecchio's election campaign."

Btw, he is 76 and has not coached for years (I do remember him, he always coached smaller clubs). What is he doing as head of Italian coaches association?

I know this is probably a global issue, but why are there so many elderly people running FIGC?

Why don't the clubs put pressure on Tavecchio to resign so meaningful reform can start?
