I forgive him and I'm a barca fan.
OK, i'm not Spanish so maybe i don't count. lol
But I felt desperately sorry for this great player after making such a simple error.
But perhaps if he now scores one against barca i'll never forgive him. hehe

This Spaniard forgives him =)

As I see it, there is *nothing* to forgive. So many times, Raul has saved our asses (be it RM or la Seleccion) or gave us such a great show. We can't slight him for missing a penalty.

There were a couple of great strikes at the end that Spain just wasn't lucky enough to get. I thought they played a great match against the French. Now, I'm hoping my Iberian brothers Portugal can go all the way.

As for Camacho - I don't understand why he was subbes so early. Urzaiz did nothing in my opinion. Also, why was Dugarry allowed to continue playing despite bleeding everywhere...

First of all why was Dugarry playing at all?, Anelka should have been upfront with Henry, possibly Trezeguet or Wiltord, but Dugarry?

Raul didn't seem that confident as he ran up to convert the kick, I had a feeling Barthez would save, instead it just went over the bar.
Wev'e now seen 2 penalty missess, Schjonberg of Denmark mised against the Netherlands.
Mendieta would have scored the penalty, but that idiot Camacho decided to take one of his key men off.

Camatcho should have never started Aranzabal. He SUCKS! and he shouldnt take Mendieta out. What I would do is switching Mendieta to the left side of the defence and take out Aranzabal. That way Mendieta would have groud to attack and defend as well.

Driver X,Duggary was playing because France made a three man attack.Duggary at the left,Djorkaeff at the right and Henry on top.

As for Rauil,he is already forgiven but he shouldn have taken the penalty if he felt bad...

Come on now, that's is unfair on Dugarry, considering he played a lot lot better than Henry that was totally invisible!

I was also surprised in Collina allowing him to continue.

I'm a lot more surprised in finding people who suggest that Camacho is a great coach !!!

Anelka has done nothing (NOTHING) in this Euro. He shouldn't be a starter. Wiltord yes.

And as for Raul - he's forgiven of course!

Dugarry has been playing well (especially against the Dutch) and Anelka has been cold, cold, cold since the start. Again, I don't know why Collina allowed him to bleed all over the pitch. As far as Wiltord, he's just another Anelka (he pulled the same sh*t at Bordeaux that Anelka did at Real)

Why Aranzabal? Simple - he's tall. Spain badly needs some height (why do you think we lost to Norway)?

I don't know that Camacho is a bad coach. It's going to be very popular to slag him off now but everyone sang his praises (the press, maybe not here, I wasn't around, I don't know). He has a different style of play, one with more balls. He likes to play an offensive game, but like Clemente. I think la Seleccion just doesn't know how to shake nerves and get over their past.

I forgot to add that Mendieta was pulled because he kept going up the middle and Camacho wanted to play the flanks as the French left a lot of room on the sides. Also, the fullbacks didn't play deep enough according to plan, which also cost us.

I can't help but thinking that if he didn't get pulled he would have taken that kick.

Why do we need height? I think it's obvious - we don't have enough tall players.

As for Hierro, he's no longer the obvious choice for us in the back. When he's in form, he's great, but this whole season for Real and now with la Seleccion he has been injured or not to form.

Hierro was injured so Paco and Abelardo were the only CD left. Very unlucky for Spain because Hierro did very well in the game against Norway and was also good in the game against Slovenia.

But Pablo, come on now, Aranzabal? The guy sucked in the WHOLE Tournament. Sergi did a lot better!

I would sure sacrifice the "height" that you say the team needed (although I disagree with that as well) and put in a player that will JUSTIFY his presence in the starting 11.

Re: height -> You'll have to take this issue up with Camacho because that was his reasoning for Aranzabal in the starting 11. I think he has a valid point with that argument, but I have so many issues with the seleccion as it was that I wouldn't know where to begin.

Aberlardo was solid throughout, I think, but Paco....What was that idiot thinking literally jumping on Henry's back? Collina must have been feeling sorry for us for not giving the red card. Any other ref would have thrown him out.

Check out the Norway match again and see how many headers we were able to take. We totally lost in the air.

Back on to topic though: The Spanish press has definitely not been cool to Raul. As and Marca were horrible to the guy today.

Dont blame Paco for the foul on Henry. He did the right thing.Other defenders (like Nesta or Cnnavaor or Cambell) would have made a tackle,a tackle from behind with Henry running in foul speed would have resulted Henry ending up in the hospital with at least one leg broken...so instead of risking to injure the french forward,Paco just pulled him down so he wouldnt risk injuring him.Very smart and respectable.

You dont realise these things unless you play football.

Really Amo? You call that respectable? So it's either a broken leg or a pull down? No alternative that has anything to do with with Fair Play?

If this kind of actions are regarded as OK, well, that's the end of the football spectacle.

What puzzles me though is how a "big name" like France faces such hostility by the referees (remember vs. Czech).

Amoroso- If you call that play respectable, you might go be a fan of West Ham then. =)

He jumped on the guys back. That wasn't a respectable play. That's an idiot thing to do - make a clearly illegal manoeuvre from behind with like 15 minutes to go and your time is losing in a major championship quarter-final. Also, in the heat of the moment, I hardly doubt that Paco was thinking about Henry's well-being and the best angle to attack to minimise pain to adversary.

As far as the playing football comment, I'm going to let it slide.

Well to me he's forgiven.

The burden was very heavy on his shoulders and somehow even before he took the PK I already sensed that he would miss! If we talk about What IFs, then it should've been another player, more senior player that is, to take the PK. <oreover, Mendieta shouldn't be substituted. He looked so calm when he took the PK.

Italy has forgiven Baggio for his spectacular miss. (Not sure about the Italian's coaches though ;) ) So I figure Spain should, too. Perhaps not soon - it's understandable, the media's raction. But they will. He's still 23, he still has a long road before him so let's continue to support him and don't crush him!

Raul's confidence notably plunged after that PK miss...So I hope tha media won't trash him for so long so that he can regain his confidence...

Good Luck, Raul
