Will Flamengo be in the 2006 Brasilian Cup?

According to CBF's rules, the top four teams in the Rio de Janeiro State Championship qualify to the following year's Copa do Brasil. And this year the top 4 were Fluminense, Volta Redonda, Botafogo and Vasco (I'm not sure about the order)... SO, according to the pre-established rules, Flamengo won't participate in next year's Copa do Brasil. :mute:

The question is simple: Do YOU think Flamengo will play the 2006 Copa do Brasil? :lala: Or will CBF do the unthinkable and follow the rules, leaving out the biggest cash-cow in the country? I'll betcha that Globo will demand to pay less money for the rights to the competition if the urubuzada isn't included. :greed:

So, what do you think? :shades:

Isn't it enough? I'd imagine few states would have even three spots, and only SP would have more than four. Looks reasonable to me.

The alternative would be to add more spots for everyone; give Rio 6 or 7 spots, 10 for SP, five for Minas, three for Tocantins, bloating the Copa do Brasil to a hundred participants or something – which just may be CBF's solution for the need to keep all the 'big' clubs in the tournament. :googly:
but this year Americano and America also played. There was 6 teams, inst ?
Flamengo will be there. Dont fool yourselves. Flamengo = ratings. Unfortunely rules do not apply for them.
Copa do Brasil - 2006? With all due respect, Mengão will be lucky if they are in the First Division for 2006. I am watching Fla x Ceará. 0 x 1 in Campo Grande, MS (even the estadio do interior looks like a portent of what might lay ahead for the rubro-*****). Beginning of the second half.

Sad to say, but Fla looks like a second division team. The only decent player is Diego. God help him having to play with Junior Baiano in front of him. The rest of the team are either recent promotions from the junior team or has-beens.

If Fla do manage to stay up, it will only be a result of some small teams like Paraná Clube, Brasiliense, Figuerense, Juventude etc playing worse.

And remember that 4 teams make the drop this year.
damn g why u hafta look for controversy like this.. im sure mengo will be in the copa do brasil of next year, but like jc said america n americano were there... n if im not mistaken corinthians were not supposed to be there this year but were invited by cbf...
n eugene im not able to watch this game n i heard mengo looked like $hit but theyre goin thru a few changes n were missin a few players that were startin for them...
i havent been able to watch them yet this year (in 2 weeks i will tho) but im more optimistic bout this team then ive been wit the other squads theyve put together.. n the way i see it if we r gonna fight rebaixamento yet again i prefer it bein wit kids from the divisoes de base n give them a chance to develop then buyin estrelas n fightin rebaixamento...

Cuca's Flamengo is the most organized team they've had in years, but the majority of players are still very young and some of this year's more experienced reinforcements, like Fabiano and Caio, haven't shown anything yet. As you mentioned, there's a large number of "pratas da casa" in the 1st eleven.

Fla was also hurt by the absence of Marcos Denner and Dimba, the strikeforce that flopped in the Carioca and that the club already dismissed... not that these two are brilliant or anything, but they might have given Cuca some tactical alternatives yesterday.

Glad you liked it. :D And hey, I guess JC could add another option for the poll. :)

I did it. It was my first FM assignment. :proud: ;) :D
Rio de Janeiro, as like São Paulo, have only 3 teams in Copa do Brasil.

Verify this site: http://planeta.terra.com.br/esporte/rsssfbrasil/tables/cbr2005.htm

The additional teams are chosen based on a CBF ranking (Top 10 teams in that ranking qualify to Copa do Brasil). Since, until now, Copa LIbertadores teams can't play Copa do Brasil (it will change in 2006), it means that some states end getting more spots than what we would expect.

Because of this rule Rio had 7 teams this year in Copa do Brasil (The 4 big teams + América, Americano and Frirburguense) while São Paulo only had 5 teams (Corinthians, São Caetano, Guarani, Ituano and Paulista).

But for next year the Libertadores teams will play the competition so it's likely Flamengo won't be able to play the competition, unless they expand the amount of participating teams.
hahahah i read today that ceara might be eliminated for usin an illegal player (not sure if it was against mengo tho), n mengo would get their spot... i think this relates to the thread... hahahha

The sittuation is that Ceara got a punishment and was not allowed to play any compeittion in 2005, so they are playing witht he help of a justice liminar. "iF" the liminar was put down, then we would have problems...
What does "pratas da casa" mean ???
As much I would love to see Flamengo play ......... I don't think they'll be there this year .
I can't beleive the fact that the Copa do Brasil is going to be without Flamengo ....... What has the world come to ????
"Silver from the house", mean players build by the youth divisions of that club.
Someone may correct me, but this may not be the first time, since in the first years only 2 clubs from each state and I am sure during this period Fla wasn't always in the Carioca final.
