I just thought about this. Rivaldo was never the capitan of Barcelona, even though he was our best player for a long time. I remmember the piece of sh$t Figo was the capitan for a season or two.
What do you guys think about that.

Also, I hated the way Rivaldo left, after all those offers from everywhere on the end he went for free.

Because during Rivaldo's presence in the team, we always had a senior spanish member; Guardiola then Luis Enrique, so thats the main reason why he was never a captain.

Somehow Rivaldo always looked to me as a player who liked playing on his own and doing things on his own. He did not look like a player that motivates the team and keeps shouting and urging the players.

Because he didn't want to be captain. He always rejected this possibility. It's true that Guardiola and Luis Enrique were over him, but he could have been the 2nd or 3rd captain, but he never wanted to be it.

i think sacking van gaal the first time was the biggest mistake we made.............infact if we cud have simply kept bobby robson on and two years he might have produced much better results..............moreover his scouting skills r amazing as he was the guy who suggested barca to buy rivaldo from depor rather than steve macmanaman whom they were planning to buy from liverpool.....................but i am being biased as that was the 1st season of la liga for me and i was truly enchanted by the stylish slick passing game of robson's barca.....................btw we cud have perhaps even held onto ronaldo.................

Van Gaal was not sacked, he resigned. About Robson, I think that he deserved one more year. He won Copa and Cup Winners Cup and he did quite well in La Liga... and yes, thanx god that we didn't sign McCrapaman.

In my opinion, Rivaldo is a team player specialist who takes orders rather than giving out ones. His role in the team itself already made him an important player.

Being so far away from LIVE Barca and NT action, I've never quite understood Barca and even Brazilian fans' disrepect for Rivaldo, although his and the team's BAD games spoke for themselves. Even Ronaldinho does not seem to have matched R10 exploits of the year (and year before) of his multiple treble games including the denied one against RM. Am I wrong? I know Ronaldinho has FAR more charisma, and I like him, but I never thought Rivaldo got his due. But maybe I'm wrong.

Brasilian fans are almost as bad as Barca fans when it comes to winning things and expectations.... :D In '98 they adored him, and in 2000 and 2001, they hated him. The problem with Rivaldo and his relationship with the Brasilian fans was the way qualification was going. IMO the whole team just wasn't gelling and Brasil went through something like 3 coaches and ten times as many players trying to put together a team. This was the time that I believe Rexach was also in charge of Barca. Rivaldo played half of the year before and that year almost at 70% fitness (including matches for Brasil. In fact I remember Gaspart's board getting into huge fights with the CBF over calling up Rivaldo). He was never really injury free and thats why you'd only see glimpses of his usual self. But like Rexach once said before the Madrid game, "I'd rather have a 70% Rivaldo than a 100% sub"

On him being captain, its not in Rivaldo's personality to bark out orders. He was one of the quietest members of the squad and well, the captain has to have a steel like attitude a la' Enrique, Puyol to captain any barca side.

I loved this man because of the way he went about things. He never spoke much, but god did his actions speak louder than anything anyone could every say. Prime example : On the last day against of La Liga against Valencia...yes you ALL KNOW IT. That infamous hatrick he scored to put us in the CL. 2 hours before the match had begun, Gaspart had told Rivaldo that the board were thinking about selling him......what a response from the player..

..Figo was just a fookin poofter. Never liked him at Barca even though I got so much stick for it (sons of bit($es even said I was anti-barcelonista :broken: :moan: ) but for me Rivaldo was the real deal.
