When you thought that we would give the youth a chance, Koeman comes up with Anastasiou as backup striker. :depress: Media reports that we have already agreed a fee with Roda JC and it's only up to the Greek to agree with Ajax and thus finalise the deal. He's a better player for 4-3-3 than that other Greek we had, but more of the same class. Also it's only for that game against PSV that we could need a striker the rest of the season doesn't really matter if you look at the quality of the opponents.

It better be a deal until the end of the season if it has to happen.

Not. It's already official.
Ajax.nl

Van Gaal btw was the guy behind not buying Uche'and promoting the youth. So this Anastatiou was done solely by Koeman while Louis is responsible for transfers :dazed: seems weird?!

I guess Hiddink has to field himself in the first 11 now so Ajax won't cause a threat this weekend

Well, perhaps you have more luck with him than with the other gyrosking, who was superb at his former fabulous club but flopped immensly at Ajax.

Well, he should get enough assists to head some goals in for ya.

Now I at least know I will predict an Ajax win for next weekend ... in the pocket ;)

Stop whyning :) sure he hasn't got Ibrahimovic talent (far from it) but he also hasn't got his ego and that compensates. The times Anastasiou will have to fill in the blanks he will do just great.

Will he get his place in the first eleven automatically? Or is it planned to use him when needed?
30 years old!? That doesnt match.

Seems strange this transfer...

...specially in the same week that the best prospect striker in the dutch premier division (outside the big 3) signed with a club overseas...

This Greek striker was linked to Belenenses (medium club here in Portugal) but the manager wanted, and I quote: "better solutions" for the attack!

The transfer doesn't seems strange to me. zlatan and sonck are both injured, so ajax needed a striker. The contract of anastasiou with roda ends at the end of the season and roda just want to have a little bit money for him. So they had to sell him now.

for next season: zlatan possibly leaves at the end of the season, so you will need another striker as well.

It doesn't look strange to me ajax bought a striker, but it does look strange to me WHICH striker. :depress:

Collins John's fee was around 4 Million Euro, while that one from Yannis is hopefully less than half a million. Also like The real one said we needed a short term solution, since Sonck and Zlatan are both out for the moment, but I hope that both still will be with us next season.

Also Collins John still has two little brothers playing for Twente, so we could still see a John playing for Ajax in the future. Besides that we Babel already as future replacement of Sonck and/or Zlatan.

Nah, Van Gaal probably had to agree too, but the transfer has Koeman written all over it. Only when Yannis scores the winning goal this weekend I didn't say a thing. ;)

To me it looks very logic and even a very wise transfer. Ajax is in need of a 3e striker. Looking at the system Ajax plays Anastasiou is a very good choise. He is tall can play with his back towards the goal, scores easily and can give an assist. In this view the transfer of Sonck looked more strange to me. As I said when he was bought, his profile doesn't fit the system, Anastasiou fits in perfectely.

Of course he doesn't have the qualities of Ibrahimovic, but he's decent and most of all the perfect team player. At Anderlecht he was barred by Koller and never ever complained. But when the team needed him he was there and delivered. Ajax is out the CL and only has to play in the Dutch league. By buying a star as e.g. Kanu it would have lead to trouble, because once the other two were back it would be 3 players (all with gigantic wages by the way) for 1 place.

Koeman just can't buy players, look at the players he bought at Ajax and Vitesse, sorry but they're all crap imo.

Anastasiou is a good buy for this moment, but what's going to happen with him if everyone can play again? Sad for the guy, I think he'll be in Ajax 2 then, while he was playing well at Roda.

I hadn't seen Kanu as serious option either, especially with the African Nations Cup being held at the moment where he has to be and thus he would miss sunday's game anyhow for example.

From the Dutch league Yannis was the best possible option if you really wanted someone as backup, only last season Koeman/Ajax also wanted to have an extra striker with the remaining of the season. Then it was Hoogendorp. It luckily didn;'t go through then, since we easily worked it out without him.

It's a contract for 1.5 year (which in practice is 0.5 year) as I understood it. Any idea how much they payed for him? Anderlecht sold Anastasiou to Roday for 1 million euro.

No idea. Ajax never gives those numbers and from the side of Roda I haven't heared anything either. Only that they could use that money well.

Haha... hahaha... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa.

I never rated Machlas, yet he is about 10 times the player Anastasiou is. What is it with Dutch teams, and notably Ajax, and crap Greek strikers????

Are there any good strikers then from Greece? ;)

I mean Samaras hasn't progressed either the way I hoped.
