Taking into account just the last 10, maybe 15 years it has to be either Litmanen or Hyppiä. I'd go for Litmanen, though of course it's easier to "shine" as an offensive player than as a defender.

I like Litmanen, but I have to say Hyppia. He has achieved more.

Who the f**k is Hyppiä?

It's Sami Hyypiä!

In Finland Litmanen is the one and only. Some think that Aulis Rytkönen is the all time number one, but no one think's that Hyypiä is all time number one. But of course Hyypiä is highly respected in Finland.

Sami is a rock, been at Liverpool for 7 almost 8 years and he hasnt been dropped once, was Club Captain for a long time, has dominated forwards all over Europe and England, Liverpool have turned down big money offers for him. Also an achievement often over looked is that he went 3 years+ without getting a yellow card in any competition despite being a CB and Liverpool having a packed schedule. So i'd say him ofcourse being biased. But to be honest the only player i can compare him to is the great Litmanen as my Finnish football knowledge isnt top class.
