Maybe Mido isn't the best Arabian player right now.. But "just lucky"?
Overall career totals
Total club matches: 153 (49 as sub)
Total goals: 60
Total yellow cards: 21
Total red cards: 4
Total national team matches: 43
Total goals: 19
Yep, 60 goals in 104 matches as a stater in the Dutch, French, Spanish, and English leagues (and he just turned 23), and 79 goals in 147 if you include national team matches.... Thats a 0.57 goals per match (dropping to 0.4 goals per match if you add matches as a sub)...
He was named the Belgian league's best foreign player in 2001, the CAF's young player of the year in 2002, and finished third in CAF's best player award in 2002. Took Ajax to the dutch treble, scoring in the final of the Dutch cup and in the Dutch super cup. Scored the goal that took Marseille into the UEFA cup, and scored the winning goal for Vigo against Real Sociedad to take them to Europe.
He currently sits as the 10th highest scorer in this year's EPL, tied with Drogba, and only 3 goals away from the 4th highest scorer.
There are many (me included) who are not very pleased with Mido, for other reasons, such as his attitude which makes it difficult for some of us to like him, even though he is a decent footballer. But there are quite a lot of people who bash him for no other reason but their ignorance of his quality as a hard-working striker... and the latter, I just can't stand.
I'm sure if Mido was an Iraqi, we wouldn't hear the end of it on this board.
Lucky indeed. Thats all.
... As to the question, it's difficult to answer because almost no Arab player stands out. But Mido and Trabelsi (I love this guy) would be candidates given their accomplishments in Europe so far.. I don't know, no one entirely stands out.
PS Zidane is as Arab as Dos Santos and Jose Clayton. :jester:
Yep, he's Kbaylie from Bejaia, meaning he's not Arab. I doubt he ever denied being Arab though, most Kbaylies dont make it at a point to deny being Arab.Natalya said:
