poll requested (Rijeka, Slaven, Hajduk, Osijek). I don't know how many of you care :howler: but there is something worth playing for in the final week of the HNL season and that's the second place spot, which is an entrance in the UEFA Cup. Four teams competing for it, and all the teams play away matches in the final week of the season.
Hajduk are already in the UEFA Cup by virtue of making the cup final, so if they finish second, the third placed club will enter the UEFA Cup.

In a league with little competition for the championship this brings some excitement to the league, though in reality none of these clubs will do anything special in Europe :rollani:

2. Rijeka 32 +17 53
3. Slaven 32 +16 53
4. Hajduk 32 +17 52
5. Osijek 32 51 +8

Dinamo - Rijeka
Zagreb - Hajduk
Sibenik - Slaven
Inter - Osijek

So who do you think will finish second place? Rijeka and Hajduk have difficult games, Rijeka will play in Maksimir against Dinamo, highly doubt they will get anything. Hajduk are historically awful in Kranjceviceva.
Osijek and Slaven have manageable matches, Sibenik are safe while Inter Zapresic now their future as well.

In terms of form, Rijeka have faltered in the second half of the season but are still a dangerous team with Djalovic and Sharbini. Away from home they have a poor record, 3 wins from 15 matches

Hajduk Split have made the cup finals, so second place isn't as important for them but they obviously would still want to finish 2nd. They have been very inconsistent this season and also have poor away form, 4 wins from 15 matches. They also are not on good form either, one win in the last six

Slaven Belupo find themselves fighting for a UEFA Cup spot again after last season impressing in their European debut, they didn't embrass themselves like some other club :)lala:). Slaven Belupo are unbeaten at home, but their away form is atrocious, 2 wins from 15 matches and only 5 goals scored. They have been helped by the home form.

Osijek have done a great job climbing the table and finding themselves in this position. Outside of Dinamo, they are the most inform club in the league, at one point being 9th in the league. Out of the four clubs, Osijek have the best away record, but still not much better, 4 wins from 15. There really is no "star" player on this team, but they work hard and are getting the results

Here is how these fixtures ended up earlier in the season
Dinamo - Rijeka 1:0 [September 29, 2007]
Zagreb - Hajduk 1:0 [November 24, 2007]
Sibenik - Slaven 0:2 [August 11, 2007]
Inter - Osijek 1:1 [December 1, 2007]

halftime in most of the matches

Rijeka a disaster in Maksimir, but that was expected, Dalic and Rijeka have disappointed big time in the second half of the season
Hajduk tied with Zagreb 0:0
Slaven 0:0 with Sibenik
Inter - Osijek 1:1

seems nobody wants 2nd place :D

updated table
2. Slaven 54
3. Hajduk 53
4. Rijeka 53
5. Osijek 52

if the results stay the same, Slaven will be in the UEFA Cup. All 4 teams are still alive (less importance to Hajduk, but they should try to at least win) and Rijeka needs a miracle

:wallbang: really I would like Slaven. Osijek and Rijeka are one of those teams who would struggle past the first round qualifiers. Not a huge fan of Loncarevic

Though, Slaven are not the same without Radeljic and Vrucina, but I feel they would do better than both Osijek and Rijeka

it isn't sure if loncarevic will be in osijek next season. apparently the rumor is that mamic offered 300 000 euro contract to loncarevic so he would come and take soldo's place on dinamo's bench. there is a lot oftalk about new dinamo coach. besides loncarevic other names mentioned are ivankovic again, ciro and besek...

:howler: Loncarevic, never really rated him honestly

Ivankovic would be the best really, the players seemed to like him and he did nothing wrong to be fired. Besek is a good coach too, but I think Dinamo is too big of a step up for him.
Ciro and Loncarevic are what's wrong with HNL teams

looks like it's Osijek, well, I don't expect much from them, they seem to be a team that gives it their all, they really don't have a "star" player on the team and they lost their best defender in the winter

HRT says Slaven finish second in the league, better goal difference

Osijek, Intertoto Cup most likely, so they can lose to the Macedonian team they are facing

no, I never said that. Osijek have shown their "good" results in Europe. Really since that nice run in the UEFA Cup way back when they haven't done much
