Now that the season it's over we can evaluate it. What team deserves most credit of the 4?

Athletic, of course, we get to the semifinals of the cup and we aren't going to UEFA because we didn't play the last match against Osasuna ;)

By the way, the name of the club is Athletic Club Bilbao, or just Athletic

I've voted for Osasuna too. They have done a great job by escaping relegation.

BTW I've changed the name of Athletic ;)

This is a pretty interesting question. Definitely between Osasuna and Alaves. I can't exactly choose, because Osasuna has done excellently to avoid relegation, whilst Alaves have snatched the last UEFA spot, after a very up and down season, and some pretty crappy patches to be honest.

The big let down is Athletic, who had a bright start, but their home form just let them down again and again. They have the biggest potential of all the Basque teams, but haven't been able to utilize it completely... the 2nd half of the year really has been a bit disappointing, especially their finish:eek:
Real Sociedad have just about done the expected:eek: Their position is neither a et down or surprise. The replacement of Toshack proved a good move, which I must admit, surprised me. I thought they'd go down for sure, once he was sacked, but as we see, a change in coaches often releases reserves of energy, you wouldn't expect.

Osasuna is probably the bigger surprise, but I realloy am getting annoyed with them. Another seaosn of their boring uninspired football is more than i can tolerate... I really hope they change their mentality, because it's getting tiresome.
Alaves were leading la liga at a certain point, so 7th is perhaps a bit disappointing, but if we take into consideration how bad they managed to play, it's really a succes. They were either horrible, or allright. Amazingly "allright" was often enough to win games. The defense was a great virtue early on, but all went begging later on.
Ruben Navarro is the one fellow who let me down a bit... he really did show impressive signs down at Numancia, and I though his transfer would be a jackpot, but not exactly... difficult to replace Javi Moreno:eek:

Best player in a Basque team this year?
Xabi Alonso? I dunno, I'm doing a bit of guessing now, as I'm hardly a specialist on these particular teams.
Best foreigner is Aloisi perhaps?

Yeah, I think you're right. Athletics position is a bit dissapointing. I don't think the position of Alaves is a dissapointment because they are actually not such a big team. I don't think they were counting on a UEFA cup place before the season.

It's very difficult to choose who is the best player of the Basque teams. There is not just one player who was outstanding.

The best foreigner could be Colloccini.
