At River Plate on loan where his salary has gone down from $3.5mil to $550k. This is great news for me as I see it resurrecting his carrer as well as no more excuses to not play for Chile ;)

The return of the Matador :)

Back to the roots (Allsport)
07/17/2003. Argentine news agency Noticias Argentinas announced that Juventus agreed to loan out striker Marcelo Salas to giants River Plate for one season.

This decision on behalf of the Bianconero management finally puts an end to the transfer saga involving the Chilean star.

For Salas this means a return to the side that made him famous throughout the world, and a chance to return to his better levels of form.

Reports from Italy suggest Lazio's former Matador will earn $550,000 dollars for his River stay instead of the $3.5 million he was getting from the Serie A champs.

River claim Salas loan Friday 18 July, 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Argentine side River Plate say they have agreed to take Marcelo Salas on loan from Juventus.

Confirmation came via the River President Jose Maria Aguilar who told Argentine news agency Noticias Argentinas that the deal was done.

"The return of Salas seemed impossible at one stage because of the finances involved," he said. "But now this club can afford such sums."

It is believed that the Chilean international has accepted a pay-cut as River would not match his £2.5m a season salary.

The move has yet to be confirmed by Juventus but they will be glad to see the back of the 29-year-old.

The Scudetto holders were having a nightmare summer in trying to offload the expensive international.

The Italian club had set up moves to Paris SG, Monaco, Sporting Lisbon and Real Betis but the player rejected all of them.

I think think these are the best best news i heard for Salas a long time now!!

In Argentina, his job is appriciated as well as he will fine his old good form, that made him star.I believe he will go very well there!!

El Matador is waiting to make a killing couple with Fernando Cavenaghi. Also Ariel Ortega in his interview at Ole said "If Salas wants to play one time with,i want double times to play with him".

Shine el Matador!!!
