The bulls hit on this forum about Trap being a tactical moron is aplenty. However in the last couple of days I've been following an event that really makes me wonder. In the days before the game with Mexico, Nesta was subjected to "infiltrations", localized injections of painkillers and anti-inflammatories, in order to allow him to take his place in the final game of the first round. The result was an aggravation of the injury, and now his availability for the upcoming game is seriously in doubt. The answer? More "infiltrations" to numb his foot and get him to face Korea.

What kind of shape will he be in for the game against Spain if this medieval treatment is continued? I'm convinced that Italy can beat Korea without Nesta, but Nesta is essential for overcoming the Spanish obstacle. I say rest him now, give his martyred foot a chance to really heal, and play him when he's really needed. It would be immensely stupid to lose him at this stage. You reckon?

Spot on
With the painkillers, Nesta himself will not feel pain, but the bruising on the foot will get worse and worse, he might break his foot and not even know it
I say rest him, Iuliano and Materazzi are capable enough to replace him vs S.Korea

Ur r completly right on this matter. It is a cause for worry. Reportedly Lazio have also protested against this, and the team management has promised that Nesta won't be given anymore of those pain killers. I hope they keep their promise.

Secondly i think that if Italy can't beat S. Korea without Nesta, they don't deserve to be in the quaters playing against Spain. I know that this is a very strong statement but thats how I see the situation.

Ciao

Fangul,

Don't you see, the approach to Nesta's ailment is consistent with the overriding criticism that Trap has become overly dependent on a superior defense at the expense of his original assertion that he was going to utililize his offensive arsenal?

If Trap were willing to consider that the offense can actually relieve the defense of pressure, then he wouldn't feel as vulnerable without Nesta in the lineup. But if he is committed to scoring one goal and then going into a defensive shell then of course he considers Nesta essential, and of course, this will lead him to forcing Nesta onto the field when he should be rested.

Hope for the best for both Italia and Nesta.

I agree that Nesta shoudl be rested as if we win this game our next game is Saturday, so that gives some time for him to heel. He will be essential against Spain, but I feel confident that our other defenders coming in can do a good job today.
