I say in the future (this season), provided the progress we are seeing right now goes on without many hiccups (esp the individual performances), we will see more of the formation below for away games:

------------------Keeper-----------------
------------------------------------------
--Finnan------Carra-------Hyppia---Riise--
------------------------------------------
-----------Biscan---------Alonso----------
------------------------------------------
-------------------Gerrard----------------
------------------------------------------
--Garcia--------------------------Kewell--
------------------------------------------
--------------Baros-----------------------

Looks fine to me, but if L. Garcia doesn't maintains a good form (and stays fit) then I think we should go buy a new Right winger.
same can be said for Kewell, both players imo if they have a bad day, it goes really bad, and wen inform they are the best in the world, they never seem to have a normal inbetween form.

I don't think we'd be looking for a striker with all the intensity and seriousness that we see at the moment if we were gonna go for 1 striker (Baros or whoever)..

On the other hand, I don't think LG's form can be evaluated enough to make a decision to get a right winger.. he's JUST back from injury.. so he'll need time to get back to his best.. Actually, I think the last game (Newcastle) was the first time he really stuck to the right wing role.. before that he had more of a free role.. Nunez is a pure winger regardless of how talented he is (sigh)..

But one thing is for sure.. Finnan has surely been putting in better performances at right back than Josemi (who started really well then started a slide in form)..

Basically, I think we should be thinking of getting a striker or two (maybe one on loan), a young central defender who'll eventually take Sami's spot (Collicini is my pick here) and if we still have money (which I doubt).. a creative midfielder or right winger..

What I think is ideal would be getting 2 strikers in Anelka and Moro.. BOTH on loan with options to buy at the end of the season.. and we simply pick who plays better.. but that's a BIT too unrealistic to happen :)

if the money is there , then i think that what we really need is a creative mind in the middle that will help shed the load on gerrard. haman is too defensive minded and likewise diao which i didlike biscan is not too convincing.as for garcia i think that if he settles in he will be a good palyer cos i saw him in his days at barca and he was really handful against valencia each time we played them.kewell needs to get alittle competition so that we make him to improve his game and grow better .

Personally I think Smicer (usually) is better then Kewell (at the moment).

There's a reason why started this thread. You see, I was hanging out around RAWK or talklfc, which one I forgot, and there was a poster who mentioned that he preferred Biscan to get the nod from Hamman in the starting lineup, due to the fact that Biscan offers better options going forward, and he too seems to have an idea of how to attack teams. A comparison of the defensive capabilities between Hamman & Biscan lead on to the same old Hamman-reads-the-game-better-and-tackles-better-and-Biscan-looks-clumsy-on-the-ball stuff we saw since long ago.

I agree to his opinion since lately we have started to see Biscan getting his confidence back under Rafa and showign sth we haven't seen from him, which is his playmaking ability. Although this playmaking ability is not so pronounced in his game, its starting to show, compared to the times under Houllier. As to his defensive side, he stint at CB during the whole of last season would have given him some good exposure on defending, and with him playing at DM alongside Alonso, the realization of having the backline behind would give him plenty of confidence, thus less clumsy mistakes :)

Perhaps a possible future successor to Hamman?

What do you guys think?
