What do you think of Ranieri?

I have been watching Ranier's Juve ever since he took over. Bottom line is: He is not a bad coach - but he isn't a great one either....He doesn't strike me as the type of coach who can actually get us to win things - but I worry that he will be just good enough to keep extending his stay.

However, after the game against Sampdoria I was infuriated. Its not the 1st team selection that bugged me - it was his subs or lack thereof.

When your team is playing a game every 3 days and you want to rotate the squad particularly if the 1st team players you choose are not spring chickens! - it is criminal not to use up all of your substitutions particularly when the team wasn't playing particularly well.

In the match against Samp, you know that the team he fielded is most likely to be the same team he uses against BATE. Camoranesi was clearly not match fit and Del Piero should have been taken off much earlier in the second half (despite having a very good 1st half).

He made 2 subs - Salihamidzic for Camoranesi and Iaquinta for Del Piero.

If it were me, I would have put on Iaquinta for Del Piero and then Giovinco for Camoranesi and replaced Molinaro with De Ceglie - then switch the formation to 4-3-3 with Giovinco on the left, Amauri in the center and Iaquinta on the right while having Nedved play a little deeper.

We cannot be satisfied with draws away to Sampdoria if our objective is to win the title. Its difficult for the team to have self believe when the manager is so paranoid to lose!

The fact that Ranieri wanted to sign Stankovic in the summer is a scary thought - he may have wanted to exchange Giovinco for that guy - that would have been a huge joke!

you might regret that forever
After todays's game i think i wont regret anything except if he continued as our coach .

Del Piero
Giovinco Nedved Camoranesi
Sissoko Poulsen
De Ceglie Chiellini Legrottaglie Grygera
Buffon

:pp
fraud
If Ranieri got fired, who's ganna be ur new coach ?

just stick with him until the end of the season and try ur best to get Hiddink, you have no other option unless you think Donadoni or Mancini is good enough.

I have to admit it would be really funny if u get Mancini

Dude, why start a thread for this when we have a Ranieri topic a few clicks here:

http://www.xtratime.org/forum/showthread.php?t=236565

i didn't realize it would be a big deal considering the duplication below:
-2 threads about the kits
-countless morattiopoli threads
-3 threads about our schedule not including the dozen or so threads dedicated for each match......

etc etc

if you're so concerned about purging threads and avoiding duplications, you're not doing a very good job at it.
...you do realize that Ranieri was a topic here (and in Juventini nation) before TuttoSport came along with their rumour, right?
I even remember when you were once leading the parade...
when tuttosport came up with this rumour about the spogliatoio that in effect, gave the ranieri story, teeth, if you will.

as for leading the ranieri bashing parade, it wouldn't be wise of you to remind me when you were one of his staunchest supporters....when the media had his back of course. now that it's shit on ranieri month, it doesn't come as a surprise your tune has changed, as has mine. only difference is, the media NEVER moulded my opinions of him.

too bad i can't say the same for yourself.
wow
i never thought in one day, same day i will see a clear challenge on authority and knowledge on/v. both glen and osman in this forum
just WOW

:D

That's brilliant. When we were near the top of the table and doing surprisingly well with a mediocre team, I thought it was fair to give Ranieri time to mould the team. As the second half of the season progressed, I became more and more convinced he didn't have it, and said so - as did many others here.

I don't remember the media being on Ranieri's back last season. Do you? Thought not.

Then of course this season, in order to justify your hilarious "we can/should/will win lo scudetto", it seems you've had a change of mind.

Fair enough, but I'm calling you on pulling things out of your ass.
Ranieri is not being criticized on this forum because of ****ing TuttoSport. Have a little pride when debating.
I think Ranieri is the biggest loser in football.

I hope he gets the fluck out ASAP.

Bumbling idiot.
CDM pretending to be right cause he defends Ranieri now that Ranieri is undefendable and attacked Ranieri in the past when Ranieri could be given the benefit of the doubt. Priceless

If Mancio can be considered, you shld count Zeman into list too

What was the thread he started? Oh yeah, "Ranieri vattene!" or maybe it was "vattinne"...

Why would somebody defend Ranieri? Even Abramovich knew that guy couldn't get the job done.

Right there, right there. That is CDM in a nutshell.

Never has a more pertinent post been written. He just needs to always swim against the current, regardless of whether he's getting swept off to sea.
The performance against Palermo in the 1st half was I think the worst Juve performance I have ever seen. We had 3 defensive mids - but that is not half of the issue. While each one of them is capable of winning the ball - not one of them is capable of a) controlling it and b) distributing it or making a successful pass.

We need someone in midfield who can control the tempo of the game for us. A Pirlo type player. That was supposed to be Tiago but clearly he is not going to play.

If you are going to play with a trequartista - i.e Giovinco....then you need someone between the other 2 DMs to control and distribute the ball and get both full backs making runs to provide the width. Because we didn't have that....all Palermo and BATE had to do was press our defenders and we would surrender possession with highly speculative long balls.

I never see this Juve trying to construct a play. Its ok to have a direct approach and use some long balls but you need to mix it up and have some decent approach play. Instead all we could do was launch a long ball or give it straight to Giovinco who was cleverly heavily marked by Palermo. This meant we could provide no service to DP or Amauri....knowing this DP had to come in deep which left Amauri all alone up front with no support.

Truly horrendous play. I never like sacking a coach early in the season....but I think I can make an exception in this case.

If Ranieri stays, i can tell you that there is NO WAY we will get even close to scudetto and we will be extremely lucky to get into the top 4....only if we get eliminated early from the champions league...which is looking like an increasing possibility.

My question is, how realistic is a Ranieri sacking? With this management, the only motive for a sacking was when Deschamps had a dispute over transfer policy and what not (this related to The Management thread as well..)

This time, with a string of poor results, and no solid/reliable candidate for replacement; what does Ranieri have to do (or not do shall I say?) to 'earn' the sack?

Go on a winless streak till the end of October? The International break is round the corner, so consider that some bought time.

Bottom line, I cannot imagine Ranieri getting sacked by 2008 end...

huh? what part of:

DID I NOT SAY IN ENGLISH??

the point i was alluding to was your opinions blow which ever direction the wind blows, or whatever the media prints. i know it's trendy to harp on ranieri right now, it's trendy to say he's a terrible coach and his tactics are off. if in fact he even has any. the difference between you and i is that you allegedly started to question ranieri when the media started questioning him.

whereas i don't need a media outlet to formulate my opinions, as you said, i was the first to question his tactics, approach, or lack thereof before even the media did and still do till this day. only reason why i'm not on the fire ranieri crusade is because a better alternative still hasn't presented itself.

oh and btw, i didn't say tuttosport started this anti-ranieri crusade. the tuttosport reference was SPECIFICALLY for the dressing room rumour/do or die vs palermo. i know you're reeling bigtime right now because i totally called you out but umm...

READ MUCH?

there is no need of a media outlet to formulate bs, you are right.
Hehehe :) :D
Rumours are Spalletti handed in his resignation to Roma, but we may have refused it... anyway if this was true, maybe Spalletti wanted to exit Roma and manage Juve as he knows the job could be available :pp

Juve wouldnt be a terrible place for his 4-2-3-1
