What do you think of Ranieri?

I have been watching Ranier's Juve ever since he took over. Bottom line is: He is not a bad coach - but he isn't a great one either....He doesn't strike me as the type of coach who can actually get us to win things - but I worry that he will be just good enough to keep extending his stay.

However, after the game against Sampdoria I was infuriated. Its not the 1st team selection that bugged me - it was his subs or lack thereof.

When your team is playing a game every 3 days and you want to rotate the squad particularly if the 1st team players you choose are not spring chickens! - it is criminal not to use up all of your substitutions particularly when the team wasn't playing particularly well.

In the match against Samp, you know that the team he fielded is most likely to be the same team he uses against BATE. Camoranesi was clearly not match fit and Del Piero should have been taken off much earlier in the second half (despite having a very good 1st half).

He made 2 subs - Salihamidzic for Camoranesi and Iaquinta for Del Piero.

If it were me, I would have put on Iaquinta for Del Piero and then Giovinco for Camoranesi and replaced Molinaro with De Ceglie - then switch the formation to 4-3-3 with Giovinco on the left, Amauri in the center and Iaquinta on the right while having Nedved play a little deeper.

We cannot be satisfied with draws away to Sampdoria if our objective is to win the title. Its difficult for the team to have self believe when the manager is so paranoid to lose!

The fact that Ranieri wanted to sign Stankovic in the summer is a scary thought - he may have wanted to exchange Giovinco for that guy - that would have been a huge joke!

Claudio Ranieri's chances of sitting on the Juventus bench next season have increased as Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has praised him for his work.

Ranieri wasn't able to deliver the silverware that the Old Lady's fans demanded this term and most experts expect him to be given his marching orders at the end of the campaign.

But the club have been keen to stress their satisfaction with the former Parma man's work and Cobolli Gigli has again lavished praise on his Coach.

“We saw a great game against Milan last weekend and the team had obviously been well managed by Ranieri,” he asserted.

“We have said that for now we just want to go forward to the end of the season and look for the nine points that could bring us second place.

“After that we will make our decisions.
But in the long meeting that we had two days ago there was a substantial appreciation for the work that Ranieri has done this year.”

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini and Bari tactcian Antonio Conte are the favourites to replace Ranieri.

:rollani:
I think this basically means Ranieri must get second place for him to stay here next season.

Oh and shouldn't Coboli be more worried about the extention of his contract?
Cobolli is a goner, so is Ranieri. He is just saying that to flatter Ranieri to his future employers. Be diplomatic.
Cobolli is a goner, so is Ranieri.
What makes you so confident? You're in for a major let down.
Cobolli's contract hasnt been renewed, but nothing major if he stays or goes. But Ranieri is a goner, that I am confident on.
ranieri has done well tactically. he's been too conservative but it would be funny if you got an inferior manager. good luck
Lol, Rabieri stays, Gigli stays, Diego doesn't come... what do you do?

Ranieri is completely inept. This is the man who was given a blank cheque by Roman Abramovich to build a team at any cost and won NOTHING.

He's a terrible tactician and its baffling that one of the biggest clubs in the world has him as manager.

maybe, but then again maybe not...

don't hold your breath.
If Cobili doesn't get his contract extended do any of you think that he will extend Ranieri's contract as baisically saying fuk you.

It's hardly a one man decision.
Nobody tells it better then Ari Gold.

If Ranieri is still with us next year, I don't care which players we bring in the summer, we'll still be a mediocre team as he is not a winner. And neither is the rest of the managment in that case.

For Christ Sake, he was there for only one season of the Abramovich era in which he got the European Cup Semis and 2nd in the league behind a side which went unbeaten; that same side Chelsea knocked out of the European Cup. Ranieri's Chelsea still contained a lot of deadwood for a would-be champion in the contemporary era (Gronkjaer?) and arguably it was the players Mourinho brought from Porto + others which helped built up the team for the championship.
I agree, we shouldnt compare ranieri at chelsea, but his career as coach to date at juventus isnt good enough at all.

What were the targets for the club this season? Finish top 3 in Serie A and make it at least to the quarter finals of the CL? Build a team for the future in which would be able to win the league and possibly make it further in the CL? I think those targets would have been put on the table.

For me I wasnt expecting any better in terms of position in Serie A. We are not better than Inter or Milan, so third spot is a reasonable result. The CL we started off very well but turned to mush when the important stages came. However, losing to Chelsea is acceptable one would think.

So for me, the biggest issue i have with ranieri is his lack of creativity and strategic thinking during games. In addition to that, his lack of developing players for the future, especially when they are clearly good enough to start ahead of players on the brink of retirement.

This season should have been a stepping stone to bigger and greater things. We should have seen our young italian players getting more game time and having the chance to show that they have or havent got what it takes. Instead we have seen older players getting chances when key position players have been injured. We have not seen any form of tactics which show the potential to win the league or make it further in the CL. In the early stages of the season, the results were positive when del piero was scoring those individual brilliant goals against real madrid, but that aside, the team wasnt playing good football.

And Ranieri can argue that he has had to deal with many injuries this season, and that the club really hasnt got the buying power to get the worlds best back at the club, but lets be honest, we have the players at the club to be playing better football. We have the team that should be beating Atalanta at home, and not drawing 8 consecutive games or there abouts.

And the thing that gets me the most is that we have a handful of games left and we are not getting any good results now for months and yet he continues to play the same old crap and does not change things around.

I say sack him today, get Ciro as the caretaker or whoever else wants to put their hand up for the role. The difference in the remaining games may be that we see some young players as well as players who have joined and haven't been able to play well under ranieri actually perform well and show that they are capable of offering this team something more than average performances.

At least coaches in the past recognised they were not doing a good job and resigned...ranieri wanst to continue to fuk us over!

Juve have a better chance of finishing 2nd by sacking him now

I think it is safe to say that the players, the fans, and the press now have no faith in Ranieri. Juve has not won a match in like 8 games now. A mid to lower table team coach would usually get fired for that let alone a team striving for 2nd place or better (we still had a shot at 1st place only 8 weeks ago).

My biggest issue with Ranieri is his in-game decisions. Its hard to judge a manager on how he works with players in training when you are a spectator but it is clear as day during the match.

On average, he makes his first substitution at around the 70th minute and on 50% of the occassions he will only make 2 subs for the whole match despite what the scoreline is (even if those 2 subs were injury forced). I though it was UNFORGIVABLE when Milan was down to 10 men and he decided not to put on another forward when he had Giovinco and Trez on the bench....and he had 1 sub left to make - meanwhile Iaquinta who worked his A*s off, was struggling to even walk. There were many similar examples during the entire season.

He plays Nedved from the start on every match he is available despite the fact that he is a 36 year old midfielder (at least Maldini is a defender who is not required to cover as much ground).

Giovinco has started less than 10 games this season, and I'll bet that on at least half of those occassions he either won the MVP award or was one of the best players on the pitch. Even in the 2nd leg game against Chelsea, the English commentators said: "where has this kid been?.....I can see Abramovic opening his checkbook".

He like Paulsen A LOT. I don't see why. Sure he can win the ball, but can he keep it? This is a common problem with a lot of Italian coaches. They think its important to have a good ball winner.....but you have to make sure that this ball winner keeps it after they get it. There are 2 sides to being a ball winner. I actually like Tiago better - he wins the ball almost as much but has more success keeping it.

And here is my final word on Ranieri. He falls into the category of coach I loathe. He makes the players squeeze into HIS formation, rather than creating the best formation for the players he has at his disposal. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with the 4-4-2.....but I have a problem in that he insists on using it for EVERY game. This is part of his rationale for not letting Giovinco play. He sais, he is not a winger. But in reality, he has done better on the left wing then Nedved has, and Giovinco would be great as a trequartista behind DP and the center forward. Camoranesi has not been available and has been inconsistent, so we use either Marchionni or Salihamidzic on the right wing - these are 2 very average players. Why not let Grygera do more attacking as the full back and have Marchisio, Zanettia and Nedved backing up Giovinco as the trequartista. That would be a much more solid and innovative midfield in my view.

So I say, sack him now.....use Ferrara as the caretaker for the last 2 games - it would give everyone a sigh of relief and will probably lead to Juventus winning their 2 remaining games and avoid 4th place and a painfully early start to the next season.

Honestly, thats Juve biggest problem. Amateur Management even for a fraud club like Juventus.

Well good luck in next season UCL preliminary round. :smileani:

and yes, Ari Gold definitely rocks!
Every season, you said Fiorentina will end up above Juve, you are such a lucky charm for your club huh? :D
