Hey, I've been having a debate with my friend as to whether France's team from 98-00 was the best ever. He thinks they are and I don't think so even though they were excellent.

Please help me resolve this with your analysis cause this argument is driving me crazy!!!

That's always hard to say. Some say that Brazil of '82 was something else despite them not winning the tournament. Brazil '70 was also great.

yeah, i saw plenty of footage of the 82 brazil side and they were the most spectacular, but my friends argument is that France 98-2000 had the most complete team, forwards through defenders and goalie.

I think the 70 side was the best but i'm a little biased too.

If you are talking about ALL TEAMS then the best team ever was the Real Madrid team that won all those Euro Cups in a row and had Di Stefano, Puskas, Gento et. al. If we are talking about international teams then Brazil 1970, Brazil 1958 and France 1998-2000 are probably the top three.

No, not by far.

Hungary 1954
Brazil 1970
Netherlands 1974
Germany 1974
Brazil 1982
Netherlands 1998

These teams all were better.

Netherlands 1998-2000 was a class better then Franch, only we can't take panalty kicks.

i agree, they made brazil play 10 men behind the ball for pretty much the whole game and should have had a penalty in the 90th min, even though they probably would have missed it

About the question proposed by the thread... no. Di Stefano's Real Madrid, Van Basten's Milan, Brasil '58 and '70, Netherlands '74 and Hungary '54 all were more complete than France 98/2000.

I do disagree about which team is the best NT ever, though: the awesome '58 WC Brasil, with Pele, Nilton Santos, Didi and Garrincha, was IMHO even stronger than the 1970 Brasilian team. :eekani: ;)

Agree with you Garrincha.... 58 was the best team we had.

About France 98 & 00 being the best team ever.... as once i told Glen.... that is a good joke to laugh all day.

What was the name of that center forward again... Gui 'varch... teh guy could not even score a goal with Zidane as his playmaker... what a useless player. And a very green Henry:eek:

Ciao killah, IMO in club history 3 teams stick out their Real Madrid (50's), Ajax (70's) and Milan (80/90s)

Bayern with Beckenbauer was also great, as was Liverpool during the late 70's early 80's. Barca's "dream team" of the 90's with Stoichkov, Romario and co also deserves to be mentioned even if they only won the big one once. They still dominated Spain and played very nice football. Also Real Madrid of the past 5 years are worthy of a mention.

Not saying that they were not great teams, but IMO thoes three teams are above all the others, they not only wone but were an "inspiration" to be followed by most trainers

I agree witn you that Real Madrid '50, Ajax early '70 and AC Milan end '80 early '90 were the best clubteams ever.

Bayern Munchen middel '70, Liverpool end '70 early '80, Barcelona early-mid '90, Ajax mid '90 and Real Madrid end '90 early '00 deserev also to be mentioned.

I never liked the idea of comparing Club teams with Nt's, these days you can buy a whole squad of good players so it's not fair to make a comparsion.

Greatest National teams werein no particular order: Brazil, 58,70,82 Hungary,54 and Holland,74. I think Italy's squad of WC 2002 arguably was the strongest Italy ever had, it was really sad it ended the way it did. Oh well, "losers" never goes down in history, so i'll suppose the best team was Brazil 1970. Complete team. More then just a couple of samba playing entertainers like previous years. Brazil 1970 were both physical and technical. They had the offensive wingback Carlos Alberto the Strategist Gérson the tough Piazza, the topforward Tostao, goal-scoring winger Jairzinho, Free Kick specialist Rivelino and the Great Péle.
