It seems George and Milan have come to an impasse and have agreed to part their ways. Rumour has it that Roma have made an offer for him. Any truth to this? Where do you think he'll fit if it does happen?
Ya its true,Milan no longer own Weah.It seems he wants to go to Roma and find Capello again.Personally, this could be a double edged sword move for Roma.On one end,he's still good, coming off the bench. It seems that the Balbo move is not going to go through and that if we pick up another foward,Poggi will find himself on his way to Olympiakos(?).
Then again,he has the potential to be greedy and will not sit comfortably on the bench and may cause some internal problems.
There is no doubt that Roma are the kings of this season's transfer market. After the signings of Gabriel Batistuta, Argentinian defender Samuel and Brazilian midfielder Emerson, they have now landed George Weah.
On Wednesday the Liberian stiker signed a two-year deal with the Roman club on the same day that his contract with AC Milan was annulled. And now Roma are ready to offer Weah a £3.2 million (€5.2m) contract.
Earlier during the day Weah was present at the club’s headquarters with his agent Fabio Parisi. And after a meeting with the club’s managing director and vice-president Adriano Galliani and the general manager Ariedo Braida, the group decided to rescind his contract.
The announcement on Weah’s departure was revealed through the pages of the club’s official website.
Striker Weah, who had been with AC Milan since 1995 when he signed from Paris Saint-Germain, scored 46 goals in 114 Serie A matches for the club.
However, last season he made only ten appearances for Milan before being loaned out to Chelsea – a result of ill-feeling between him and coach Alberto Zaccheroni.
Galliani said that on Wednesday morning he had received a call from AS Roma president Franco Sensi who was looking for information regarding the striker’s availability. And now they have quickly followed up their interest by signing the player on the same day.
Coach Fabio Capello can now boast one of the best forward line-ups around. Besides Weah and Batistuta, the team includes Francesco Totti, Marco Delvecchio and Vincenzo Montella. And now it will be up to Capello to keep all five strikers happy.
This must be a story with some legs as it's all over the UK too. Got this from out friends at http://www.teamtalk.com
Weah stays in Italy
George Weah has left AC Milan and is expected to move to Serie A side AS Roma within the next week.
Weah was on loan at Stamford Bridge last season and helped Chelsea to the FA Cup final win over Aston Villa.
It was originally thought that the Liberian was likely to team up with Jean Tigana at Fulham but the move hit a snag with Weah wanting to be offered a coaching role at Craven Cottage.
Fulham officials have been in talks with Weah's agents but it now seems that any deal to bring him back to London is dead. The former World Player of the Year is keen to link up with his old manager Fabio Capello again and is set to be given the opportunity to do so in Rome.
Milan were originally reluctant to sell Weah to another Italian club but it seems they have conceded to the players wishes.
Weah spent four years under Capello at the San Siro and will forge one of the most potent strike forces in Europe with Gabriel Batistuta and Francesco Totti.
