Its always been like this, if you want to argue anything its the fact that they are using a 10-team, 2-leg playoff system to determine their 5 spots.

What they would usually do is have this same format in the 2nd round, but the top 2 advance and 5 groups of 4 form where the group winner gains qualification. Now instead only the group winners advance and a two-leg playoff takes place (probably seeded too).

With Africa you never know, its the most wide open of the qualification continents. Away trips in Africa are always "different" from anywhere else

What an opportunity for the winners of Group A & Group E to be two matches away from the World Cup

My predictions:
A: Central African Republic :pp
B: Tunisia
C: Ivory Coast
D: Ghana
E: Gabon
F: Nigeria
G: Egypt
H: Algeria
I: Cameroon
J: Senegal

good luck picking 5 from those

My prediction of group winners:

A: Central Af. Rep.
B: Tunisia
C: Ivory Coast
D: Ghana
E: Congo
F: Nigeria
G: Egypt
H: Algeria
I: Cameroon
J: Senegal

I'm assuming the seeds would be:

POT A: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt
POT B: Algeria, Senegal, Congo, Central Af. Rep., Tunisia

I'd say all Pot A teams (except Egypt) would advance, with Algeria instead of Algeria. HS is right though, this is probably the toughest zone to predict the teams who'll take the qualification spots.

I may have to re-consider Cameroon, they just lost to freaking Cape Verde in the AFCON qualifiers and will probably miss out again on the tournament unless they win big at home

Central African Republic looks interesting, this is a team which didn't even win a FIFA WC qualifying match until June 2012 :)eek:) yet are ranked in the top 70. Their group is very manageable as well and they eliminated Egypt in the AFCON qualifying.

Senegal have a good team on paper but they are so disorganized, like an African team from 20-30 years ago where they don't even think about defending.

I suspect there will be a debutant from Africa; some team like Mali, Gabon could easily qualify for the WC in this system

Who do you think the five from those teams will be to advance to Brazil?

Btw, interesting you don't have Ghana in there, WC 2010 quarterfinalists.

No one has South Africa either from group A :D

Cameroon and Morocco continuing their heroic form in African cup of nations qualifying. :rollani: Both losing 2-0 away to Cape Verde and Mozambique

Yeah but Ghana has improved tremendously, and it looks like there are a few other teams who can make some buzz of their own in Brasil two years from now. I think the quality of football in Africa isn't all too bad.

I actually think Ghana have declined since 2010 :D In a group with Zambia and Sudan they are not entirely safe in qualification. Losing KPB was a big blow for them and Gyan has been shit since going to UAE

Ivory Coast are still a good team but they have no luck with the draws at World Cups, but they also tend to choke in African Nations Cup

I think African sides will disappoint massively in Brazil unless they get favorable groups.

It seems to me that Ivory Coast still aren't bad though, finishing second at the 2012 CAF Cup. Ghana also finished fourth. I guess we'll see when (and if) they make it to the World Cup. Ivory Coast hasn't lost a game in 2012, btw.

Group E is ****ed up because both Congo and Niger were awarded three points by FIFA. Also in that group its been only home wins (minus the FIFA awarded games) so while Congo are in a good position just because they won their two home matches.

Morocco

Two big matches on Tuesday, Egypt host Zimbabwe where an Egyptian win will practically put them in the playoffs. Algeria-Benin is pretty much a must win for Algeria if they want to return to the World Cup

I don't know why Congo got those 3 points awarded to them but in the case of Niger that was due to Gabon having used an ineligible player.

Egypt crushed Swaziland on Friday 10-0 on a friendly so nothing but a win is expected for them on Tuesday.
