By AFP, 2000-05-25

LIMA, May 25 (AFP) - A record 3,000 police officers will be mobilised for the 2002 World Cup qualifier between Peru and Brazil on June 4 in Lima, Peruvian authorities said Wednesday.

The security operation will be the largest undertaken for a football match here.

Some 45,570 tickets for the game were snapped up within hours of going on sale here Wednesday.

Supporters queued for hours at some 13 specially-erected ticket stations in supermarkets in the city centre, resulting in minor skirmishes.
