He took Livorno to promotion into Serie A last season, after 55 years. They had 2 good strikers, 1 good left-back and some hard-working mids. Then he’s gone to Reggina. He’s got a team with limited quality this season also. They’ve got mediocre goalies, strong but old-fashioned defenders, some fighters in mid and one true target man with little creativity behind him. Sounds like they must be relegation contenders, right?

And yet, he’s managed to get his team into a very comfortable league position, on the threshold of a dream place in the top 6. He even managed to beat Juve, the only time that’s happened this season. He is none other than Walter Mazzari. If Prandelli can become such a hot commodity after finishing fifth with Parma in consecutive seasons and bad results in Europe, then Mazzari can atleast belong to a similar level. I believe he’s the next great coach in Italy. His next caoching assignment might well be with a big team.
