Viola close in on Colomba Friday 3 May, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reggina boss Franco Colomba is believed to be Fiorentina’s number one target to take charge of the team next season.

The Viola have openly admitted that a new boss is on the agenda in the hope that he can lead the freshly relegated club back into the top flight.

The 46-year-old tactician, currently attempting to get his southern side back into Serie A, is said to have already been approached by the Tuscan outfit for the new campaign.

The Viola are also hoping that Colomba’s possible appointment could help them sign Reggina duo Gianluca Savoldi and Salvatore Vicari.

Other possible contenders for the post include Palermo’s Bortolo Mutti, Gigi De Canio of Napoli and the unemployed Renzo Ulivieri who was sacked by Parma this term.

Viola director Beppe Pavone has revealed that the Coach situation should be resolved within the next ten days. "President Ottavio Bianchi should have it sorted out sometime next week," he said.

Pavone also commented on the uncertain future of striker Nuno Gomes (pictured). "At this moment in time there are no negotiations in progress for Nuno. We’ll wait until after the World Cup to decide where he will play next season."
