Rudy came to the United States at the age of seven and began playing soccer when he was ten. He attended Gorton High School in Yonkers, New York and played baseball, football, basketball and tennis at school. The star of the United States team at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. He began his senior career with the First Vienna club of New York but soon stepped up to play for the New York Giants of the American Soccer League. However, it was as a member of the New York Brookhattan team of the ASL that he won the National Open Cup, the ASL championship and the Lewis Cup triple in 1945. In his non soccer playing life he was an electrician and director of stage operations at the New York Metropolitan Opera and received wide acclaim for his role in the staging of Tristan and Isolde in 1971.
