Week 5 has VfB hosting FC Koln (Cologne) in Stuttgart on Friday.

Expected lineup:

Kalajdzic
Castro, Didavi
Coulibaly, Mangala, Endo, Wamangituka
Kempf, Karazor, Stenzel
Kobel

Coulibaly was quite active down the left last match so I expect him to keep his place. Don't know about Mavropanos or Anton, whether they are still injured or coming back so soon. Koln picked up their first point on Sunday. Don't know too much about them.

And it ends 1-1. VfB drop 2 more points at home. They didn't handle Koln's high press very well, not moving the ball quickly enough upfield. The few times they did, there was ample space, but crosses and through balls went to the wrong jersey color.

Kalajdzic looked better this match. In addition to the assist on Mangala's goal (24 seconds in), he sent Coulibaly in alone on goal only for the Koln keeper to parry Coulibaly's chip away. When Kalajdzic went off, Gonzalez moved to the middle with Churlinov taking over the left wingback position.

VfB gave up a cheap PK goal when Karazor yanked on the jersey of a Koln striker as he was jogging in the box, well before the ball was played in from 30 or 40 meters out.

Week 5: 2-2-1 8 points

Goals - Assists
Kalajdzic 3 - 2
Wamangituka 2 - 1

Klimowicz 1 - 1
Mangala 1 - 0
Kempf 1 - 0
Klement 0 - 1

VfB went to Schalke for their second Friday night match in a row, and came away with a single point from the 1-1 draw. VfB put a lot of pressure on Schalke in the second half, but couldn't score the winner. Gonzalez slotted home a PK after Sane handled in the box.

Damn another draw.

What do you think about Endo, Teak?
Endo is AWESOME. Very calm on the ball, and passes very accurately. The guy looks small but he is a skillful tackler and quite tough. I rate him as the best VfB player, and most likely to get picked up by a larger squad. I just hope that VfB are a big enough squad (history, stadium, fan club, etc.) that he sticks around. VfB has the youngest 1.B squad and they will get better. If they can stay up this season, I think they will move up the table next year. Just avoiding relegation might be enough right now.

Week 7 has Eintracht Frankfurt visiting Stuttgart for a Saturday match.

Expected lineup:
Gonzalez
Castro, Didavi
Sosa, Mangala, Endo, Wamangituka

Mavropanos still out with a knee injury. Hope to see Klimowicz, Kalajdzic, and Coulibaly come on as subs.

VfB and Eintracht Frankfurt draw 2-2 in Stuttgart in a very entertaining match. The VfB youngsters had the better play in the first half, but switched off mentally a couple of times in the second to let Eintracht equalize.

And it ends 2-2. A very entertaining match, but another two points dropped at home. At least they are competitive, but falling in the table slowly.

Week 7: 2-4-1 10 points

Goals - Assists
Kalajdzic 3 - 2
Gonzalez 2 - 1
Wamangituka 2 - 1
Castro 2 - 1
Didavi 1 - 2
Klimowicz 1 - 1
Mangala 1 - 0
Kempf 1 - 0
Klement 0 - 1

Expected lineup:

Nico Gonzalez scored a goal in each of Argentina's two WC qualifying matches during the international break. Hopefully his form continues.

And it ends 3-3. Kempf with the match drawing goal at 90+3' after Kalajdzic headed the ball backwards into his path in the box. Nice to see the grit and determination, but the second half play was so poor. Too many passes directly to Hoffenheim players; too many times caught in possession trying to dribble out of trouble.

Second goal scored by Wamangituka after two rebounds, off bar (Gonzalez header) and off post.

Week 8: 2-5-1 11 points

They play Bayern next week and I don't expect any points from that match. Hanging in there, but a win sure would be nice.

Goals - Assists
Kalajdzic 3 - 3
Gonzalez 3 - 1
Wamangituka 3 - 1
Castro 2 - 1
Didavi 1 - 2
Kempf 2 - 0
Klimowicz 1 - 1
Mangala 1 - 0
Klement 0 - 1
Endo 0 - 1

Goals scored: 16
Goals conceded: 12

VfB host Bayern Munich in Stuttgart this Saturday. Gonzalez out with a slight ligament tear in one knee so expected lineup is:

Kalajdzic
Castro, Didavi
Sosa, Endo, Mangala, Wamangituka
Kempf, Anton, Stenzel
Kobel

Sosa and Endo have both signed contract extensions to 2024 or 2025. Good to see.

VfB take the early lead against Bayern on a breakaway by Wamangituka down the right side, who crosses to an open Coulibaly in the middle (20'). Bayern tied it around 38' and then Lewandoski hammered one home right on 45'. Score is 1-2 at halftime.

Actual starting lineup was a 4-2-3-1:

Wamangituka
Coulibaly, Castro, Forster
Mangala, Endo
Sosa, Kempf, Anton, Mavropanos
Kobel

Week 9: 2-5-2 11 points

VfB end their 7 match unbeaten streak going down to Bayern Munich 1-3 at home. They put forth an awesome effort, but in the end their offensive zone passing and decision making let them down. Coulibaly picked up his first 1.B goal off an assist from Silas.

Forster started his first match, but even though he takes up good positions, his decision making explains why he isn't a regular starter.

Goals - Assists
Kalajdzic 3 - 3
Wamangituka 3 - 2
Gonzalez 3 - 1
Castro 2 - 1
Didavi 1 - 2
Kempf 2 - 0
Klimowicz 1 - 1
Coulibaly 1 - 0
Mangala 1 - 0
Klement 0 - 1
Endo 0 - 1

Goals scored: 17
Goals conceded: 15
Clean sheets: 1

And with that, this sub-forum stays dead for another week.
