Nicola Ventola's wait to make his Crystal Palace full debut is set to go on after he was ruled out for up to six weeks with a suspected broken ankle.
The Italian striker, 26, joined on a year-long loan from Inter Milan in August but then injured his knee.
He returned to training this week, only to suffer the new blow and boss Iain Dowie said: "Nicola's had a massive disappointment. He fell awkwardly.
"He may have a spiral fracture of his tibia. It might be four to six weeks."
Dowie added: "It's a massive blow to the lad. We all feel for him because he's desperate to be a part of it.
"He even pulled me up afterwards to say he was terribly sorry because that's the sort of lad he is.
"He's in a plaster at the moment and he's out of the loop for a long time."
