Uruguayan international striker Diego Alonso is to join beaten Champions League finalists Valencia, the club said on Friday.
Alonso, who plays for Argentine first division side
Gimnastia y Esgrima de la Plata, will arrive at the Spanish
first division club next week to undergo a medical and sign his contract.
He has been a regular fixture in Uruguay's recent
internationals, although he missed Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Brazil in a World Cup qualifier because of a minor hamstring injury.

Valencia have completed their signing of Uruguayan Diego Alonso, as they look to increase their options up front.

Having lost Claudio Lopez to Lazio, Valencia will be looking to Alonso and Norwegian John Carew to provide the goals for the club as they defend their title.

Alonso has moved from Argentinian club Gimnasia-La Plata and signed a five year contract with Derpotivo having passed his medical on Thursday.

Valencia Forwards...

Don't know anything about this Alonso guy, but I hope he will be a nice addition. Our forward situation is now very interesting. I am still wondering who will start for us...

We have: Ilie, Carew, Angulo, Alonso, Delgado maybe?

I think the best combination is Ilie and Carew, as Ilie can set up the big man nicely.

Or maybe this Alonso guy can take Carew's place, who knows?

Any ideas?
