First round of UPL games is over. I enjoyed a few games. The race for the final Europa league becomes interesting, as Dynamo join Chornomorets in a race for 5th . Absolutely clueless in Kyiv. It got to the point where Dynamo were so bad you'd feel sorry for Kryvbas in a way if Dynamo scored a late winner. Kryvbas could have a better second half to the season as they got a few of Arsenal's players.

Arsenal's new team went down 3-0 to Dnipro. I do wonder what could have happened if Arsenal weren't kicked out of the Europa league for fielding the ineligible player..:hmm:

Friday night brought a comfortable win for Shakhtar in the end, but not without Volyn having a few chances of their own. The ball was carelessly given away more, though Mkhitaryan really had a classy game overall. Sobol looks a prospect at left back too. Poor defending was present for first two Shakhtar goals and for Bicfalvi's equaliser, although it was an awesome strike.

Zaporizhya showed a better performance despite losing 1-0 to a rocket from Fomin for Illichivets. Oberemko could be one of their key new signings, as the Zaporizhyans look to restore a little pride and not finish with the worst points record.

Metalist 3-2 Metalurh Donetsk was nearly a classic game, as Metalurh almost came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. Marlos was the star of the show for Metalist and you could see the difference a few more weeks made to their fitness. Jaja enjoyed a good return too with some good passes and strong dribbling and hold up play. This result makes it easier for Chornomorets, who beat Vorskla 1-0 today. A great crowd of over 27,000 watched them win that too.

yeah, awful dynamo, that last second corner by Veloso says it all.:rollani:

Zaporizha look not so bad, playing that way i think they can win a game and make more than 10 points in the end.:)

Normal win for Dnipro, arsenal basicaly have a new team with one week of trainings.

Metalist-Metalurh Donetsk was the best game of the round, metalist central back's continue to be their cancer,m.donetsk from mid to attack is a ok side, their are the fav to take the 6th spot but might not be enough to go to europe.

hoverla finnish the round 9 points behind the 14 place.
karpaty looked good,a 7-8 place to them in the end playing that way.
tavria brazilian central back's must be the worst in the league.:pp.Big financial problems in simferopol club.

Chornomorets amazing run continues,7 wins from the last 8 games,22 points even better than shkahtar,7 points ahead of metalurh donetsk, odessa club is heading to europe, their fans deserve it.

normal win for shakhtar, pyatov sucks and if a team like volyn can create 4,5 chances of goal imagine what dortmund can do?they defend very poorly the set pieces.

Great game in Lviv from what I saw. Unfortunately I couldn't see it all, but it looked like the game of the round. All 3 goals were good, well created goals from both teams and both played well. That 5th place for Chornomorets should be sealed. They have tough games against the top 3 (and Dynamo at home) and have a harder run in than Metalurg Donetsk, but 9 points should be too much now.

Terrible pitch in Uzhgorod too. Scrappy game there and Hoverla look doomed.

It looked like Vorskla learnt from the match Shakhtar had with Borussia Dortmund. There was a lot more pressing to the Shakhtar defence. It's an approach Borussia used well as neither of Shakhtar's midfielders dropped into the defence to make it 3 vs 2 at the back. Unfortunately Vorskla had such little quality and idea of how to score Shakhtar were never really in great danger of conceding the win.

Nice gift from the linesman for Dynamo too.

round 21

shakhtar-chornomorets 3-0,chornomorets loses again after oct 6,10 games without losing, shakhtar made chornomorets return to earth.

dnipro-kryvbas 1-2,big surprise, great month of march for kryvbas.
Dnipro loses the second spot and returns to fourth place.

Metalist-Hoverla 1-0,a mistake by hoverla keeper gives metalist the second place.

Dynamo-Vorskla 1-0,Vida scores his first goal for dynamo.Dynamo look awful in the second half.Vorskla lose against dynamo, shakhtar and chornomorets 0-1,let's see what they can do in next games.

Tavria-m.donetsk 4-3,a feast of goals, maximov team doesn't look like a team who wants to be in europe next season.

Illichivets-Arsenal 2-1,mariupol side six place on the table, third defeat in a row for arsenal,no surprise.

Zorya-Volyn 3-1,big financial problems for lutsk side, had to go by bus to luhansk, lol.

zaporizha-karpaty 1-1,fourth point in the season for zaporizha,sixth goal,lol........

Dnipro's pitch quality is pathetic. Cheap drainage system prolly, pocketed the money instead. Inviting these stupid results against less technical sides

Zaporizhya continue to show improvement with a 4th point. They may just avoid the worst points tally I think. They won't catch Hoverla but will probably get more points than them in this part of the season.

Seems weird that Zorya are up in 7th place, but they have a pretty hard run in so they'll probably fall back a bit. Danilo's a bit clumsy, even if he did score 2 at the weekend.

Shakhtar were on another level too high for Chornomorets in that game. It wasn't like they defended that badly because all 3 goals stemmed from very good attacking play from Shakhtar with Fernandinho probably being the star man. Good to see Grechyskin get a chance too. The lad's got talent.

Really improved displays from Kryvbas this month. Playing Priyomov more's given them a bit more flair, Dedechko's playing well and more and Antonov's now got 7 goals. Zozulya's 2nd yellow was correct too. Interesting race for 6th place and the possible Europa League spot now.

Crazy goal-fest in Simferopol. Some really disastrous defending from Metalurg cost them although Tavriya's goals were well-taken. Before that they'd only scored 13 in 20. Nazarenko was good. He's a bit old but still pretty useful for teams in that part of the league.

Illichivets' win over Arsenal wasn't a great game. No great goals but Arsenal had a couple of defensive howlers.

Another Dynamo game, another awful display. A win against Vorskla thanks to a goal from a set piece was played in front of less than 13,000 spectators, which says it all about the situation really. Tactics and style of play are looking pretty rubbish. First time the crowd's dropped below the capacity of the Lobanovskiy stadium since moving there, and before then there were at least 20,000 each game.

I think Dynamo will lose to Chornomorets and then to Shakhtar the following weekend. Then by that point Metalist could be 7 points ahead, though I think Kryvbas are capable of getting a result next weekend against them. Metalist only just won thanks to an awful mistake, though I didn't see the rest of the game.

yeah 12879 spec says it all.:yuck:

dynamo will find it hard against chornomorets especialy because a lot of
players will be in nt's.

against shiktar it will be a full stadium,it will help the team not to lose at
least.

Another round down. Dynamo overtake Dnipro and Metalist into 2nd place ahead of next Sunday's big game. Dynamo showed that they can defend and be difficult to beat. Khacheridi and Vida were both pretty strong at the back in this game. Chornomorets just didn't have enough clever play to break the defence down, though the match was quite even. Ideye didn't really link with the rest of the team although possession was often good.

More great form for Kryvbas as they draw 1-1 with Metalist. With no more fixtures against the top 5 sides and a really good run of form I quite fancy them to nick the 6th place.

Vorskla extend their run to 6 games without scoring a goal in a pretty dour game with Zorya. They could have just nicked that result with a few chances but the game was basically them crossing and hoping for the best.

Arsenal almost got their first win against Tavriya, only to be denied by an absolutely sensational free-kick for Gadzhiev, similar to Aliev's one that clinched the title for Dynamo against Tavriya in 2009.

they might had lost kacheridi though, silly behaviour.

Kryvbas looks good.

think dynamo and metalist are the fav for the 2 place, dnipro didn't look good in last two games, they are missing konoplyanka.

Dnipro's GM accuses the league of match fixing after questionable pk calls go against us the last 2 games. He said the fall session is normal, but in the spring until Dynamo is 7 pts clear there are match fixing issues taking place lol

We are struggling without Kono and Zozulya, and seleznyov and kalinic are terrible

Hahaha we are such a joke right now. If we get all of our players healthy i still think we can take 2nd place, full strength we are better than dynamo and metalist. Big problem has been injuries and terrible field conditions, our pitch looks the one in Lugansk :rollani:

Hahaha Good shout Kleber :howler::howler: Agree about Seleznyov and Kalinic. Mandzyuk should have done better for Gromov's goal too.

Even beyond the derby, there was plenty of interesting talking points in what was a good UPL weekend. Metalist only just beat Volyn 1-0 with an early Cleiton Xavier goal. It'll be a tight race, but I think Dynamo will overtake Metalist by the time they play each other, and then I think Dynamo will avoid defeat in Kharkiv.

Metalurg Zaporihya 0-0 Arsenal Kyiv. A rare clean sheet for Metalurg. Still winless though. Bogdanov looks good for Arsenal.

Kryvbas and Metalurg Donetsk stepped up their attempts to break from the rest of the pack chasing 6th place. Chornomorets should still grab 5th after taking a point off Zorya in an entertaining game in Lugansk (or 1st half as I only saw that). Nice passing football from Chornomorets, particularly Fontanello and Politylo, but Zorya were competitive and imposed themselves physically a bit more.

Heroic effort from Kryvbas against Illychivets in Mariupol, after playing the last 35 minutes with 10 men. Illychivets were dreadful, but Kryvbas would have probably extended their lead with 11 men. Good balance in the team there but it'll be difficult without Priyomov against Tavriya next week as there's not so much depth in the Kryvbas squad as Metalurg's.

Metalurg Donetsk 4-0 Karpaty. Poor defending from Karpaty who also miss Lucas badly, but the goals were well-taken and created, with Junior Moraes scoring 2 with one after a good fake shot, taking his UPL total to 10. Leonardo smacked a sweet one in too. Metalurg's back 3 did well, with Poloviy having a good game in addition to scoring a beauty into the top corner!

Tavriya 0-2 Hoverla. Surprise result in Simferopol. Hoverla maintain a little bit of hope in the quest for survival. With some easier games coming up against teams around them, maybe there's hope.

Round 24

Volyn 0-2 Illichivets A match not particularly special for anything that happened on the pitch, but off it Mykola Pavlov actually managed to take charge of Illichivets for the first time after agreeing to pay Vorskla $200,000 for illegal early termination of his contract. Also, Ramon Lopes was apparently attacked by a Volyn director for missing a penalty in that game after Illichivets took a 2-0 lead with two pretty rubbish goals. An attack even harsher when you haven't been paid for 3 months.

Chornomorets 1-2 Dnipro Yevhen Konoplyanka inspires Dnipro to a return to form (hopefully the sort of form to stop Shakhtar gaining more points towards the UPL record) with 2 assists and a great all-round performance. He was without doubt the difference between two evenly matched teams. It's no surprise Komoloiskiy is choosing Konoplyanka as his priority over Kryvbas. A couple of moments of bad concentration in the Chornomorets defence cost them, but they really need a new speedy/skillful attacker to help them to the next level. I enjoyed watching Politylo in this game as he's quite a stylish passer. They've still got winnable home games, so gain the Europa spot and they'll attract some good players considering the good infrastructure too.

Kryvbas 2-0 Tavriya It seems that a training ground without hot water or electricity, or payment for 3 months is toughening this Kryvbas team up. Really serious financial problems for the Krivyi Rih team but yet they keep on playing brilliantly even without 3 key players on this occasion, admittedly against a pretty rubbish Tavriya team. 3rd best team since the UPL's restart. Really good work rate from them, with Pashaev and Fedorchuk looking particularly good in the first half.

Shakhtar 3-0 Zorya Zorya only needed 10 more minutes without conceding from a set piece to get a draw

Karpaty 0-1 Dynamo Seems like Dynamo got the win despite not playing that well this game. Ideye scored his 14th.

Hoverla 2-0 Metalurg Zaporizhya Hoverla close the gap and Zaporizhya are almost gone. Metalurg have 3 games to get to 9 points before their last 3 virtually unwinnable games for them :wallbang: lol

Metalist and Metalurg Donetsk keep the races for the CL and EL spots interesting win good wins too.

Sevastopol add Tavriya to the list of UPL scalps along with Kryvbas. This means that 6th place in the UPL will probably get a ticket to the Europa League next year, bearing in mind that Sevastopol are unlikely to win another match and if you imagine Chornomorets finishing in 5th. Ideal draw for me is Chornomorets vs Shakhtar as that scenario reduces Shakhtar's chances of winning most.

Nazarenko should have taken his penalty earlier. I knew Eduardo Neto would miss as he stepped up. Congrats to them.
Sevastopol are also 1 point above Stal Alchevsk at the top of the Persha Liga and 8 points ahead of Olexandriya, so very well-placed to win promotion. With Rebrov seemingly becoming a part-time poster here, I'm wondering if I'll have to take on the task of the introduction to the new teams at the start of the next UPL season. I'd have big boots to fill :scared: :)
