Grant is a lucky guy, like I said if he doesnt loose to MU and gets us to the Final he deserves another season-but if he continues in the same fashion next season I will stomach only a couple of games before asking for his head.

Spot on! Grant is doing a great job! there is so much prejudice from people out there, judging him before he has had a chance!
Tonight he brought Cole off (bad game) and put Kalou on the top left and Anelka up top with Drogba. I thought Kalou should have started as Malouda is really bad, but the substitution worked and Kalou crossed to the middle with Anelka and Drogba closing in which made Riise panic and head into his own net. Grant deserves more respect!

IMO Lampard can go. He is capable of get four goals against a superb team like Derby, but against great teams he does NOTHING, NOTHING AND NOTHING. Our problem is that we have a very slow midfield, and without a bit of creativity. It's simply pathetic!!!

Essien was missed; he needs to play in big matches in MIDFIELD, not at a wing back.
I am going to say neither side played that well, so perhaps a fair result. Two somewhat lucky goals, coming from mistakes. Competent goal keeping, decent defending but not that good either.
Midfield of both sides couldnt support the attack very well.

I must say it feels pretty sweet. 0-1 wasn't too bad, considering it's first leg at anfield, but OG in injury time against Pool, it's sweet.

I agree completely...saying that ballack had a bad game is completely stupid.i was just thinking off the give and take to lampard, which frank then hit some cross/shot thing. also created a chance for himself with a nice bit of skill, tested reina. and in the first half he nicked it pass mascherano then sent out a greta ball to joe cole, i thought he just showed some good stuff when your midfeild actually got hold of the ball. i imagine with essien back, you will see more of it next week.
He was the only player keeping the ball and passing it well. Some people are just clouded by notions
which makes them state that Drogba had a good game and was the key to all of Chelsea's best moves :drunk:

The reason you guys keep moaning about midfield is the fact that with someone like Drogba in the team, all Chelsea look to do is play it direct. All the moves and i mean for a period ALL the moves in the team started with Terry or Ricky launching a long ball to Drogba who had dropped deeper hoping for him to get the flick on to the wingers Malouda and Cole who had gone beyond him. Trouble was that for all the times Drogba did get the ball down or flick it out it usually found a Liverpool player or the second ball was claimed in a dead alley.
The Drog was okay in the first half, in the second he was very poor. There is no denying that. He will always win headers and one on one duels because of his strength and power but besides that he did little or nothing else. he was not the key to your attacking moves imho.
With all that lugging ball forwards the midfield was almost entirely bypassed. Chelsea had their best period in the game (middle of the second half) when the midfielders actually got ahold of the ball and did something with it.
The Malouda chance a prime example of four or five passes originating from midfield and showing what that kind of movement can do.
But instead of playing that football, Chelsea seem more than content to lug it up to Drogba, hope he betters his man, gets the filck on for the wingers or drops the second ball for Lamps/Ballack.
Maybe its an away game thing but its definitely not something you should do when you having players capable of holding a team together with their passing.

we played shit house, we were not interested in anything right across the midfield but Ballack somewhat stood out and i too was surprised to see him come off when Lampard was just God awful. The man had too much on his plate emotionally to play the full 90 and Grant the genius should have taken him off. In my opinion Drogba was crap and maybe it is time we off load him while he is still worth some money. Cole had another off day and Malouda just can't break this spell of his.
Cech and carvalho were instrumental in us not losing. With Essien back next week, we should finally be able to secure a CL final appearance.
