Proceedings opened against Chelsea
Monday, 21 March 2005
UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea FC, their manager José Mourinho, assistant manager Steve Clarke and club security official Les Miles on charges of bringing the game into disrepute.

Investigation carried out
European football's governing body announced the measures today in the wake of an investigation into incidents at the UEFA Champions League first knockout round first leg between FC Barcelona and Chelsea at the Camp Nou in Spain on 23 February. Barcelona won the match 2-1.

UEFA statement
In a statement issued to uefa.com, UEFA said: "UEFA today announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea FC, head coach José Mourinho, assistant manager Steve Clarke and security official Les Miles, for making false declarations, notably in the complaint sent by Chelsea FC following the UEFA Champions League match played against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou on 23 February 2005.

'Wrong and unfounded'
"By further disseminating these wrong and unfounded statements, Chelsea FC allowed its technical staff to deliberately create a poisoned and negative ambience amongst the teams and to put pressure on the refereeing officials," the statement continued.

Date set
UEFA said the disciplinary case would be dealt with by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 31 March. Article 5, paragraph 1 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations - Principles of Conduct - state: "Member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship." In addition, Article 5, paragraph 2 d) stipulates that a breach of these principles is incurred by anyone "whose conduct brings the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute".

If the harshest punishment is dished out, then the tie would be replayed or Chelsea would be kicked out. This would place Bayern vs. Barcelona.

I think Barcelona would prove to be a good challenge for Bayern.

Nah, it's sad. UEFA is nothing without clubs, they should remember that. When they go hard against one big club, other big clubs just may go against UEFA, especially considering all these little arguments witch go around relationships now.7-8 top clubs step out, create new league and basta, arrivaderci UEFA.

Uefa will most likely hand out an apropriate 'fine' that will make Mourinho think twice.

And as monetary fines can't hurt Chelsea... they may be forced to do something a little more drastic.

From what i've read & heard they're using very strong words against Mourinho & Chelsea.

So the big clubs are allowed to do whatever they want? Also, who is to say that UEFA would die if these clubs leave?

I'm thinking of NHL and Euro basketball few years ago.
Simba, JM always thinks before he speaks.

Btw, JM made a complaint to 4th offical at half time when Chelsea was leading 1-0 and had 11 men. Not after the game.

You do not scare Chelsea just like that. If you tell us that JM should think before he speaks and there's consequensies of what he speaks, then the very same applys to everybody else. Even to UEFA. At this point Chelsea has enought power to make them to eat their words.

Uefa are calling Mourinho a liar.

Mourinho did not lie.

Even the reporter from Sky Sports saw Mourinho complaining to the ref saying he can't do that.

C'mon Uefa we are an English club, you'd love to kick us out.

Let's see if you will.. have you got the balls?

UEFA seems to be playing judge and jury...

I expect a long long legal battle. The Courts always favour the man with money... since long battles need cash.

This will also allow the Euro Super League to form faster.

G-14 will be watching these with keen interest.

From whats been said, Chelsea and Mourinho are contradicting each other.....And from what Uefa say, neither Mourinho nor his assitants could've seen Rijkaard going in from where they were standing. So what was Mourinho on about then?

Rijkaard has admitted himself, that he talked to Frisk. At halftime. When his team was down. Your only defence right now is, that JM lied about where this discussion was. That's relatively unimportant, considering the outcome of the game. Besides, as much as CFC has leaked out, JM never actually said he saw them there. He asked that if he could go to talk to ref too in dressing room. And he complained right away, not after the game.

Plus, who was the ref in previous Barca-Chelsea game?
