Atlético's upcoming opponent in the UEFA Europa League will be Vitória SC from Guimarães. They finished fifth in Primeira Liga the past season and managed to knock out FC Midtjylland from Denmark in the previous qualifying round after 0-0 and a 2-1-win yesterday night.

This is how they played against the Danes.

Nilson; João Paulo, Anderson Santana, El Adoua , Alex; N'Diaye, Barrientos, Pedro Mendes, Renan Silva; Edgar Silva and Abdelghani Faouzi.

There's been plenty of movement in the market from their side, as per usual when it comes to Portuguese clubs.

Atlético have played them previously, in 1986-1987-season when we lost 2-0 in Portugal and then beat them 1-0 at Vicente Calderón to get knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

The games will be played 18-25/8.

An easy draw for you. Guimarães are tough at home but this tie against Midtjylland showed that they are far from having a solid team as they got many new players coming in this pre-season.

I agreat the talent that Madrid have on their team should be more than enought to win the ties.
Not saying Guimarães will not be hard to brake down and score.

I dont see Guimarães scoring much.

Atlético will most likely be strengthened by two or three new players when this tie is being played, so another reason to be optimistic..but as always, cautious when it comes to this club.

Forlan not in the sub bench also. Boarding a flight to Milan I suppose.

The important thing here is that Atlético ended up winning and getting a good result on top of everything.

Gabi played really well through out the game and is our only creative outlet when he's on the ball, his ball movement is very good at times even though he's rarely under pressure from Vitória's players. This is something he's improved a lot over the past four years at Real Zaragoza and hence why he was so vital to their game. The fullbacks were excellent all night long; put up good pressure defensively, didn't have any problems defending and went forward every single time they had the chance. They're absolutely essential in a 4-3-3 and both could've had a goal if they were a bit more lucky, especially Sílvio who also shoots with both feet. I've always thought it's important to be two-footed and he showed why when he fired off that shot in the first half.

He might not have looked great but Adrián is again involved in both of our goals. The guy is a hard worker despite not having much of a end product individually and well done to him, he worked the channels really well in the second half. Elías was brilliant when he came on, could've easily had a hattrick if was a bit luckier and Nilson wasn't in the way. If we sign a ball playing midfielder, then we could easily be playing with Elías on the tip of that midfield three because he's practically arriving as a striker, much like Khedira does with the German NT, though Elías does it even less announced. Juanfran deserves credit for making that excellent through pass to Adrián on the second goal btw, very similar to the one he made for Diego Costa in Pamplona last season.

Tiago worked well and I wonder how many ball wins he had tonight while the CB-pairing didn't have much problems. Mario's passing isn't good enough in my opinion, I'd play Tiago in that position and Koke a bit further up the pitch or Koke in the DM-position, I know he can play it..but only when Tiago isn't available.

..and finally, Joel did fine in everything minus the aerial game. He has to know when he needs to come out and when to stay in goal, more determination as well. Reyes was very hot and cold tonight, mostly poor though.

Penalty to Atlético after something like 60 seconds when Salvio is taken down by Nilson.

1-0 by Gabi. First goal since the return :D

Adrián makes it 2-0. Brilliant through pass again. VSC's defence is in shambles though.

Atlético is really playing well. This is probably the best team display I've seen in years, yes, we're playing against Vitória Guimarães who're missing a CB and don't pose any sort of threat to Atlético but the team is running with as well as without the ball at their feet which gives results. The fullbacks are brilliant today; Sílvio is joining every single attack and Filipe, as we all know is no different. Filipe is probably one of our best players tonight alongside Adrián and Gabi. We've got something in Gabi which we've been missing for so many years; an organizer of the game. He keeps switching flanks with brilliant passing, make small combination plays (just like everyone else) and even joins the attacks when we're counter attacking Vitória. Atlético could've easily been up by four or five goals after the first half, we just didn't take our chances properly and the ref didn't even give us a penalty we should've had when Adrián was brought down in the penalty area.

Two interventions for Courtois; one save of a shot in the penalty area and then he saved the ball in a bit spectacular fashion just before half time.

This is actually really fun to watch.
