REPORT

RAPID BUCHAREST were held to a 1-1 draw in the 1st leg Bucharest Derby against arch-rivals STEAUA BUCHAREST. The game didn't began good for Rapid when Steaua midfielder Banel Nicolita (6.) gave the visitors the lead at Giulesti stadium after
a cross from the right from Steaua striker Daniel Oprita. But Rapid striker Dinu Viorel Moldovan (50.) made no mistake to score
the 1-1 equalisier after Steaua goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Fernandes were unable to clear the ocassion.
During first half first Rapid striker Daniel Niculae nearly equalised as he headed the ball against the post within the tenth minute,
but also Steaua were denied a goal when Steaua striker Andrei Cristea missed from five metres.

MIDDLESBROUGH lost 0-2 away at St Jakob Park, Basel to FC BASEL. Both Basel goals were scored just before half-time.
And both goals were scored by Basel midfielders, the 1-0 by Argentine midfielder Matias Delgado (43.) and the 2-0 by Swiss
international midfielder David Degen (45.). Degen scored the second Basel goal during injury-time of the first half.
The game ended even worse with the news and the fact that Middlesbrough left defender Emmanuel Pogatetz got injured during the second half after a 1:1 scene with Basel striker Mladen Petric. The Austrian international defender was taken to hospital and
Middlesbrough coach Steven McClaren confirmed a nose fracture. Furthermore Pogatetz will be examined for a major head fracture.
