It was to show what confidence and form do to a player. Also how our play didn't suit him at all. He did really well when we played with two forwards, just like our whole team. Our team form dragged him down just as much as his form dragged us down.

Right. I don't know why we should blame Milan for Gila's dismal performance. I know for certain that the club was patient with him. He was almost always in the starting line up even when he wasn't scoring, until when the Carlo and the fans couldn't take it any more. That was when the jeers started. If he couldn't adapt to our system then so bad, and in my eyes that makes him not good enough. Milan isn't certainly going to overhaul its formation just to suit Gilardino. The goals he scored last night are similar to the ones he scored for us in that friendly in russia, IIRC ; lightly marked or free headers. He's the type that only thrives in one formation. That doesn't reflect a good player.

I would be surprised if R80 isn't in the starting lineup tonight. But Kaka behind Pato and Borriello is fine.

Tactics didn't help, but the abuse this guy took was pretty huge. And yes, the first couple of seasons the guy did score in the league. I think he had 17 goals hte first year. It was the last two years where he really had a terrible time with things.

Gila scored 30 league goals in first 2 seasons... more than satifactory IMO... he got abuse because Gila is not a show pony, and in Milan they love either show ponies or someone who would work his arse off... Gila is neither, he has decent technical skills, but his best asset is like Trezeguet, just waiting for the goal. At Firoentina he is suited to them as they play a system which benefits him, unlike in Milan where he was expected to be the target man, the Cruyff and the Ronaldinho all in one while Kaka and Seedorf dilly dallied around him.

Indeed that was my point. Gila will not be a scorer or assist man of great goals. He will simply score hearders and tap ins, he will miss them too, but the likelihood is he can get in good position if his players deliver decent crosses. The other problem also is Gila can drag defenders away simply because he will always be in the box, but Milan have very few players who attack the box, even still... kaka, Ronaldinho etc. stay around the box, the only player from midfield who can attack the box is Ambrosini, but only with his head, with his feet he is useless there.
