No new faces for Azzurrini Thursday 25 March, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Claudio Gentile has named a 20-man squad for next week’s Under-21 international friendly in Portugal.

The Italian tactician has resisted the temptation to call up any new faces but he has kept faith with some newer players.

The Coach called up Cesare Bovo, Marco Donadel, Giandomenico Mesto and Simone Del Nero for the first time in last month’s friendly against Greece.

They have been included again for next Tuesday’s test even though Roma star Daniele De Rossi is absent through injury.

There is still no place for Milan’s Marco Borriello in attack. His chances of making this summer’s U-21 European Championship Finals now look even slimmer.

Goalkeepers: Agliardi (Brescia), Amelia (Parma).

Defenders: Barzagli (Chievo), Bonera (Parma), P Cannavaro (Parma), Bovo (Lecce), Chiellini (Livorno), Moretti (Bologna), Zaccardo (Bologna).

Midfielders: Brighi (Brescia), D'Agostino (Roma), Donati (Sampdoria), Palombo (Sampdoria), Donadel (Parma), Mesto (Reggina), Pinzi (Udinese).

Forwards: Caracciolo (Brescia), Del Nero (Brescia), Gilardino (Parma), Sculli (Chievo).

Portugal will be very strong at home, probably too strong for us. I didn't think we played well against Greece so I hope we'll see a better performance.

I was a bit surprised that Rosina wasn't included to begin with, he was our best player against Greece.

The reason why Rosina isn't regular yet is because he rarely gets to play at Parma. Carbone, Zicu and Degano :)wth: ) are all more or less picked over him. Too bad, cos they guy's pure class just like he showed against Empoli on sunday. :star:

Thanks mate. Good to see my boy Quaresma on the list. ;)
We'd like for your boy to earn up a call to the senior list. How much time is he getting at Barca, and is he behaving?

I don't know, Rijkaard seems to have a problem with him but I'm one of the few who think that he should be a starter over Luis Garcia. Sure, he'd have a few road bumps but he'd deliver the goods soon enough.

He's behaving but a couple of weeks ago he did tell the media he'd like to see Rijkaard show more confidence in him.

BTW, who do you rate better between C.Ronaldo and Quaresma?

Their skill sets are incredibly similar, but Ronaldo has surpassed Queresma in terms of football maturity from what I hear. I have to go by what I read and what others tell me however, since I don't get to watch Barca as much as I get to watch ManU.
