EXCLUSIVE Tudor defies specialist with comeback

Tuesday 23rd April 2002

Croatia star Igor Tudor has revealed he is close to a comeback for Juventus, despite fears, after visiting an ankle specialist, that he would miss the World Cup.

"I chose another method and, thank God, the results have been really good," he told onefootball.com.

Tudor believes his persistent injury problems this season can be traced back to the damage his ankle suffered in the Serie A game against Lecce in September.

"It became complicated because I never fully recovered," he said. "We thought it was going to be OK, but it wasn't, so a month ago I went to see a specialist in the Netherlands.

"The treatment he recommended demanded a six-week break and, in the spring before a World Cup, you can understand why I was reluctant."

The defender chose a different programme of recuperation and is now looking forward to getting back into the Serie A title race.

"From Saturday I will be training with the ball again. I'm optimistic as my ankle feels much better. I hope to make the bench in the league match against Brescia on Sunday," he said.

"It's most important that we are still in contention. After Brescia, we have Udinese away and that will be really difficult as they are fighting against relegation."

Tudor's ability to play in defence and midfield will also be invaluable to Croatia at the World Cup - and the big utility man believes his national side's meanness on the pitch bodes well.

"The fact that we have conceded only two goals in our last eight games is good. It helps that the midfield is working so well, especially Zvonimir Soldo and Stjepan Tomas," he said.

"I'm sure that this Italian style will guarantee us a place in the second round."

I hate commenting on stories from onefootball because most of the time, we find out that they're BS.

But, if it's true, hopefully Tudor isn't rushing himself. Last time the doctors said he was ready he said he wasn't, now it seems to be the other way around, to a degree.

Let's hope Igor isn't jumping the gun here.

You confused me a bit when you said yesterday;)

Hopefully he played well, I've asked the people in the Juve forum how he played so we'll see what they say.

Tudor is well expirienced player and no matter what task is ahead of him,he'll get to the best solution.
When I was explaining to other people few yrs. back how Igor Tudor is about to become the best defensive player in Croatia, they've laughed.
Especially, after Cro-yu game in Zagreb, where he did make few mistakes.
Now it's a little bit different situation.
Next one who'll explode will be Rapajic!
I would also like to add that Igor Biscan is unbelieveble defensive player and my opinion is that Croatian defense with Tudor,Simic,Biscan would be even better than Italian defense.

pozdravlja vas svih,majstor...

yeah, but in that game Ciro played him out on the rght, in the right midfield role due to injuries to Boban and no Prosinecki, Tudor did not fit well in there.

I have to agree with Majstor! Tudor has definately proven that he is an experienced player. I have to admit that I was one of those doubters a couple of years ago, but Tudor has improved beyond belief. I dare to say that he is one of the best central defenders in the world and I only wish that my Barca could have had enough sense to buy him from Hajduk a few years ago. It goes to show you that Juve have some excellant scouts in their system. Let's just hope that he stays 100% and that the rest of the back line can get healthy before the big show! Naprid Bili! Forca Cakovec!

Tudor is making his return at the right time. Hopefully his ankle can hold up and he can play out the rest of the season with Juve and be fully fit for the World Cup. With this news i'll be sleeping a little better tonite. However Boksic is still a worry as he didnt play for Boro again. :(
