Bordeaux won their first Champions' Trophy following a 5-4 win on penalties over Lyon at the Stade Chaban Delmas. The sides could not be separated after a 0-0 draw in normal time and it took a miss from Brazilian defender Cris in the shoot-out to hand the season's first trophy to Les Girondins.

Laurent Blanc's men hit the post in a frantic first-half but could not get past a quite brillaint Hugo Lloris in the Lyon goal. The youngster, signed from Nice in the summer, saved the champions on two occasions in the first period with splendid saves from Henrique and Yoann Gourcuff.

The second-half saw Lyon emerge from the traps but les Gones were denied a goal when Karim Benzema passed up a wonderful opportunity and Mathieu Bodmer hit the post.

Neither side managed to make the breakthrough in 90 minutes and it was left to penalties to decide the winner.

Italian Fabio Grosso had the chance to wrap things up for Lyon with his team's fifth penalty but the defender sent his spot-kick over the bar. The loss was Lyon's first ever in the competition.
