i play attacking midfielder but once i get tired i normally go DMC for a while.

one thing i love about defending, i dont know if anyone does it but i dont see it alot, is do the opposite and trick the attack like he would trick you.

for example his running at me with the ball and i am watching it, i would fake go left then quickly move right and tackle.

its worked most of the time, cose once i move left the attacker sees it and goes right, which i was planning for him to do. its great.

sorry if its a sht move, or been done before, but i just discovered it this season.

I do this in indoor soccer, and it works fairly well. It's a bit of a risk though, since the first rule of the defender is not to dive in, keep your eye on the ball and let the attacker make the first move. You can also look fairly stupid doing this if the attacker uses it to their advantage and gallops past you while you're faking yourself out :D

The trick is to make him hit the ball into space where he loses control and you get in between him and the ball

You can feign a challenge and then kick go for the ball when he hits it forward

You should always try to push the defender to the sides or to a space where you team mate has a high change of tackling him by making him fall into a trap

If a player is slow stay a metre or so away from him if he is facing you

If he is much faster than you and has alot of grass ahead of him then stay 2/3 metres away

But obviously the closer the ball gets to to you penalty area
The less chance there is of the player reaching top speed so get closer because the consequences are much more dangerous if he passes you

yea dont fake tackle, just stick your leg out to the left and move your body to left, however then quickly stick leg out to right, you should get him, i am fairly sure.

yea, but if it doesnt work you do look s tupid

Fake a tackle

Why not?
Pretend you going at him with a quick movement

Sometimes he will move the ball away by instinctive reactive
And when he hits the ball thats your chance

BTW this is a trick
Don't use it all the time

I have edited to make it 'feign' and not 'fake' because its a better word to use

I'm centre-back turned DMC too.

Personally, I don't go for any of this tricking the attacker bollocks, I just take a slide, and get the man, the ball and anything else that happens to be in way.

On a more serious note, the thing I like about the position is that you can commit to tackles much more than when you're playing in defence because you know there's always gonna be someone behind you. Plus I get to twát the occassional 40 yarder at the opposition goal. :D

Its called outsmarting

When you are face with a 1v1 situation you have to outsmart them before they outsmart you

Obviously you don't go around feigning every attacking player
But you have to try to read the player's next move

This thread is dedicated to tricking/feigning the attacker
But theres alot more to defending than Just that part

I just take a slide, and get the man, the ball and anything else that happens to be in way.
The best defensive midfielders majority of tackles are standing up or interceptions
Vieria,Dacourt,Emerson,Davids etc

Only slide if theres no other option and you are almost certain you will get the ball
Because when you are on the floor you are out of the game

The first part of my post was made with my tongue very firmly in cheek.

Good points none-the-less.
