Giovanni Trapattoni is keen on taking over as either Italian or German coach, following the resignations of Dino Zoff and Erich Ribbeck.

Trap is still held in extremely high regard within the game, and his name has been associated with two of the plum jobs in European football, although both bring with them an enormous amount of pressure and criticism.

Following Zoff's decision to quit, in the wake of some stinging comments from Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi, Trapattoni's name has inevitably been linked with the position, despite many Italian players urging Zoff to reconsider.

"My name has been associated with the Italian job for so long now, I don't listen any more when it is discussed," said 'Trap'. "It would be an honour to manage Italy, just as it would be an honour to manage Germany."

Meanwhile, Fabio Cannavaro and Antonio Conte have voiced their displeasure at former goalkeeping idol Zoff's announcement.

"Whatever happens, he'll go down as a great coach," said Cannavaro. "But I hope his resignation will be rejected."

Conte added: "Let's hope he changes his mind."
