Coach Antonio Lopes is to enter into negotiations with Vasco in order to bring out-of-favour striker Edmundo to partner Ronaldinho in the Rio Grande do Sul club. According to radio reports, Lopes is willing to offer striker Paulo Nunes plus a sum of money in order to buy "The Animal"'s contract. The possibility also exists that Edmundo may be put on loan to Grêmio. The option of buying the player outright seems remote, however - Vasco have put a US$9 million price on the striker's contract.
Flamengo intend, over the next few weeks, to negotiate the return of former players Júnior Baiano and Djalminha. Baiano will undergo a medical this week, and if all is well the club's directors hope to seal his return as quickly as possible. The directors are also hopeful for the return of midfielder Djalminha, currently playing at Deportivo La Coruña, Spain. Fla will try to buy out the other half of the contract of Rodrigo Fabi (they already own half), who the Spanish club have shown interest in, and involve him in an exchange for Djalminha. A negotiation involving midfielders Beto and Iranildo could be another option.
The circus surrounding the future of Brazilian star Emerson goes on. It seems that his deal with Roma has a spanner in the works.
Emerson’s personal manager Juan Figer has offered the star to European champions Real Madrid. The price? A whooping DM50 million (€25m). And it seems that the Spanish outfit is interested.
Emerson though still has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen, but the club will let him leave – so long as they receive DM50 million. They want to invest in the South American’s replacement, Partisan Belgrade player Robert Prosinecki, whose past clubs include Real Madrid and Barcelona.
