Name: Juan Roman Riquelme
Current Club: Boca Juniors (Arg)
DOB: 24/6/78
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Previous Clubs: None
Comments: The quintessential attacking midfielder or creative play maker. Riquelme, seems to possess all the attributes of a
level headed star. An excellent dribbler, Riquelme also maintains a high degree of precision and is therefore a very accurate
passer of the ball. He also has an equally strong shot with either foot. Also, renowned for his physical balance, competitive work
rate and effectiveness from set pieces. Performed very admirably for the senior national side during last year’s Copa America
Tournament that was held in Paraguay, in where he was given the opportunity of leading Argentina’s offence. He was also an
important part of Argentina’s 1997 youth winning championship side. Many of the larger European clubs such as Real Madrid,
Barcelona and Juventus have monitored his progress. Could have left for Europe a while ago but has opted to stay in Argentina in
order to gain greater experience.

Name: Pablo Aimar
Current Club: River Plate (Arg)
DOB: 3/11/79
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Previous Clubs: None
Comments: A team mate and close friend of Saviola at River Plate, Aimar is a fantastically talented attacking midfielder or
play-maker with superb dribbling skills. A very fine passer of the ball, perhaps Aimar’s greatest gift is his vision and effortless skill
in where it is almost impossible to dispossess the ball from his skillful feet. Countless goal scoring opportunities have emerged
from his inventive mind. He has also been the author of some great goals. Seems, to read the game very well this is
complimented by a good work rate. Has been compared to being a finer version of Ariel Ortega. An integral part of the Argentinean
youth sides, in where he won a gold medal at the World Youth Championships that were held in Malaysia in 1997. A number of
European clubs such as Manchester Utd, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Parma have been linked to Aimar. Has been capped by
Argentina at senior level. He should play a role in the on going qualifying games for the 2002 World Cup.

Name: Javier Saviola
Current Club: River Plate (Arg)
DOB: 11/12/81
Position: Forward
Previous Clubs: None
Comments: Nicknamed “el conejito” which translates into the little rabbit, Saviola, burst onto the scene and made his league debut
at the tender age of 16. Widely, regarded as the next “big thing” to emerge from South America. Western journalists have likened
this wonder-boy to being a cross between Maradona and Pele. Positionally, he is more of a forward than either Maradona or Pele,
but unquestionably he possesses a performance level that holds so much promise of a future legend. A highly skillful player
Saviola possesses tremendous pace, great technique that is combined with excellent dribbling and shooting skills. Will most
definitely move to a large European club in the future. He was voted South American Footballer of the Year in 1999. Last season
(Apertura 1999) he finished as top goal scorer in the Argentinean league with 15 goals in 19 matches. Already monitored at his
early age by some of Europe’s largest clubs.

has not only filled in for the injured star striker, Moreno has made a strong name for himself, he has been scoring very regularly.
In one particular week he scored eight goals. Inclusive of five in a Copa Libertadores match. A true predator in the penalty box he

I would say that Christian Muñoz (Boca), Franco Costanzo (River Plate)and Albano Bizzarri (Real Madrid) are three goal keepers that Argentina will look to in the future.

All three of them have performed for Argentina at youth level (Under 20, 21 and 23) but only Bizzarri has been capped at senior level.

Newell's Old Boys number 11 is:
Diego Mateo
Birthdate: 07/08/78

San Lorenzo doesn't have anyone who wears number 11 and 17
I think you mean Leandro Romagnoli, he is left footed. The other one could be Raul Estevez who wears No. 7.

I like Manso, very much as well. Several, European clubs have shown a strong interest in him. I believe that Lens of France, are the latest to have expressed an interest. His club Newell's Old Boy's wants US$10 Million for him. The player that wears the No.11 shirt for Newell's is Diego Mateo, he is also very young, as he will turn 22 next month. The best player that San Lorenzo have is Leandro Romagnoli, and he wear's the No.10 shirt. I included him in my list. He is an amazing talent.

I feel sorry for Bizzarri, Toshack was freaking destroying his career. He needs to go to another team badly. His career won't get anywhere with RM.

Anelka you are making my mouth water with your list of players :)

What I'm amazed about is the number of players from River Plate in that list. How the hell do they keep producing players!?!

furiablanca: I am the actual writer of the Argentinean youth list (that made your mouth water :)). Clubs such as River Plate & Boca Juniors have always been known to groom top level talent. Above, anything these clubs have amazing youth systems. Many of these stars started off playing in what in Spanish we call "inferiores"

The reason SOuth American clubs in Brasil Argentina Uruguay and COlombia produce so much talent is because they do not have a choice.

By the age of 25 every top South America has eithe rplayed in Europe or is playing in Europe or is the target of a big transfer struggle.

So many of their player sleave it is of necessity that the youth system works well.

Necessity breeds ability.

Che: I personally think, that Cambiasso is reay for Real Madrid, given his tender age he has matuted as a person and as a player.

Cambiasso, really is an amazing talent. Fantastic technique, passing, dribiling and overall excellent offensive and defensive skills. A very modern midfielder.

I have just read however on several Argentinean web sites, that Cambiasso's loan period to Indepediente will most likely be extended for an additional year. With Redondo leaving, I would have thought that Real Madrid would have retained Cambiasso. as a player.

The above news regarding Cambiasso's loan situation, has yet to be confirmed by Real Madrid, I guess we will know later this week, if he will remain in Spain or if he'll be back in Argentina for another year.
