2nd Tony Adams Testimonial

I've nicked this from the official website (hope they don't mind me spreading the word!)

To commemorate his 19 years service to Arsenal Football Club, Tony Adams has deservedly been awarded with a second Testimonial Match.

The match will take place at Highbury on Monday 13 May 2002. The kick off time and opposition for the match are yet to be confirmed, but as soon as there are any developments they will appear on Arsenal.com.

As the details for the match are still being finalised, the Box Office will not have any ticket information until Monday 29 April 2002.

Hopefully the opposition will be a bit better than Crystal Palace (no disrepect intended, but he deserves world class opponents this time).

BB

I don't like the sound of them apples, Will! What are we gonna do?!

P.S....The latest word is Celtic will be the opponents. Any thoughts?

Thoroughly deserved, and I agree - that Palace game he had in 94 (?) was a shambles.

Only about 17,000 turned up, although Tony himself or whoever arranged it should look at their poor planning of the game. The timing was really bad if I remember, was it just before the start of the season, or just after the end?

I think it is Celtic. That should be interesting the Scottish Champions Vs the English Champions.
This time it will definately be a sell out, as it might be Tone's last game in an Arsenal shirt.

Players I'd like to see return include as Jacke mentioned the Arsenal Back Four & Ian Wright...

Also:

John Jensen (shooooooot!)
Manu
David O'Leary
Alan Smith
Michael Thomas

I think the opposition, for a man who was all about his club and his country should be an England/Ex-England XI.

Just imagine....Gascoigne, Shearer,Lineker.....a lot of great players would turn out for it I think.

Can I be called the second suitor? Suitor no. 2 sounds like some kind of bathroom code.

Tony Adams will donate more than half the £1million expected to be raised from his testimonial against Celtic on May 13 at Highbury to charity.

Adams is following the lead of former Arsenal team-mate Niall Quinn and Leeds United's Gary Kelly, who are using their testimonials to raise money for good causes.

He said: "I am just grateful that I have the chance of this testimonial.

"It means a lot to me and a large part of the money raised that night will go to the charity I support, Sporting Chance."

The match will mark 19 years of service by Adams, who has only ever played for the north London club.

The 35-year-old, who may captain Arsenal in Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea, told reporters he would make a decision over the close season about whether to carry on playing. Adams has been dogged by a string of injuries in recent years.

The Celtic match comes nine years after his first Arsenal testimonial against Crystal Palace in 1993 when barely 13,000 fans attended.

A much bigger crowd is expected to pay tribute to Adams as Celtic fans, no strangers to Highbury, are guaranteed to turn up in their thousands.

In recent years, the Hoops' faithful have helped top up the coffers of Gunners greats Sammy Nelson, David O'Leary and Paul Davis.

A large proportion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the reformed alcoholic's Sporting Chance charity, set up to educate footballers about the dangers of drink

I got my tickets yesterday and if we do win the double which we will, the testmonial will be a very memorable for Adams and the Fans. I think he will announce his retirmement at the match. Do I think Arsenal should retire the No.6 shirt?
I do, but I don't think Adams would want that, he would want to see a youngster wear his shirt and hopefully be the 'new' Tony Adams.

It will be a complete sell out. It will be diffcult to get tickets as Celtic have the whole Clock end, which I find ridiculus. It will just be like another match.
Go to the Arsenal website for ticket details.

I got my tickets through Ticketmaster today, on the website. I tried phoning at first, but I soon realised this was a futile exercise...

There are still tickets available:
