Ze, the Brazilian wizard or the brazilian dictionary :), I've been following the Brazilian forum for quite some time and i have to say it is the forum with the most activity and most interesting topics and discussions thanks to people that really know the beautiful game of football.
You know that brazilian poet you were mentioning on another post, Nelson Rodrigues
with the great football quotes, could you make an entire post on his best quotes as i love that kind of stuff.
ALso, since in your profile you say that one of your fav things to do is Ipanema beach!
Have you checked that great website Ipanema.com on that piece of Paradise? I never been to Brasil or Ipanema but i'm working like hell to save for next year's carnaval to come to Heaven (Brasil).
WHere is the best place for the carnaval Ze for someone that never been to Brasil before?
THanks Amigao and Tchao!

San Siro,
thanks for the compliments :)
Yes I have checked that website quite some time ago.
The best thing for Carnival in Brazil is the following: I'm not realy sure want you want in Brazil..if wo check the country or the partying with the local diversity of cultures, arquitecture etc.....etc....

But ill tell you the carnival side:
I's advise you not to go to carnival in rio, why?
1) It s more a turist thing, and you will see people have fun...not truly yourself. So to see taht you can buy a video and you see all the costumes and their meaning in the story the samba school is telling the audience.
2) it more expensive

The alternative:
GO TO PARADISE OF PARTYING: OLINDA!!!!
It's a historical city north of Recife. As you are french you might like it , as the french invaded their...as did the Dutch back in the 1600's! :)
You can listen to any sound you want, you meet crazy people from al over the world, its a city with Colonial Baroque architecture etc...etc...etc.. mixture of colour, sounds, crazyiness, people, dances, costumes etc....and it is FREE! :) What better deal can you get?

NOw of course if you go to Brazil you HAVE to go to Rio, otherwise you have not been to Brazil :). You can go to Rio before carnival and work your way up.....then reach Porto Seguro....a beach resort were Brazil was discovered, by Pedro Alvares Cabral 500 years ago....and then go to Salvador.....spend a good week their....and then in Carnival LEAVE Salvador..it wil be a bit tough, but its thebest.....as the mainly the blacks of Salvador are a bit rough :( And in Carnival you GO to Olinda......after that and if you like loads of partying I doubt you will come back to your country :)
Also if you like modern arquitecture you can go to my city, Brasilia......but just spend a day or 2, as their is not much partying going on their, compared to the rest of the country....and it is a bit expensive.
BUt Rio and Salvador spend a good week in each of them :). When you go to Rio also check the evolution of the city in arquitecture...the city center is Baroque...and then thorought the beach the buildings start getting newer, with many places that are partof the history of Brasil, as Rio used to be the capital :)

Ze, I can't believe the massive amount of information you can give on anything :)

I fear however, you will be busy hangin' at the News Cafe all day long soon :)

And I could seriously indeed understand that. The passerbys are just bombs. Just make sure to secure tons of money by whatever avctivity, as I want to visit the cool appartment on Ocean Drive you will buy like 20 times a year :)

CESF
SanSiro, tell to Ze that you are blonde female, and he'll show you personally all the beautiful places. :)
But don't tell Ze that your profile lists "girls" in the interests section :)

CESF
Alexx,
I will live far away from Ocean Drive :( But as soon as I get the diploma i'll work on an apartment overtheir...but also my favourite......the Cap Ferrat apartments in Ipanema :) (I doubt i'll ever earn half the money to buy an apartment overtheir :(
I like you info compliment. THeir is a friend of mien who is a communist :(, and only cause i don't agree on his ideas on politics and brazilian music etc.... the guy told me i am not very informative. Its not my fault he is so narrow minded
Kat, why would I take meat to a barbecue? :) :) :) :)

About songs, their are loads of singers and styles.
If you like bossa nova, try Tom Jobim
MPB (brazilian popular music) go with gilberto gil, caetano veloso, chico buarque, GAl Costa.

if you like music from bahia: go with banda eva, daniela mercury, chiclete com banana, Olodum, asa de aguia etc..

samba: zeca pagosinho is my favoutire today, Negritude Jr. ..or samba schools etc..

San Siro,
just a quote from the top of my head about Nelson Rodrigues, is ne of his most famous:
"Every unanimaty is thick"!

Try looking at www.cade.com.br, type his name you might get some stuff in French.
Also their is a "Casa Brasil- Franca" in Rio, you may want to enter in contact with them or something! :)

SAN_SIRO_1:

(cuidado) be careful, san-siro-1, because portuguese from portugal is different from portuguese of brazil.

voce esta a falar -- "you are speaking" in portugal
voce esta falando -- "you are speaking" in brazil

also, i think portugal people still use "tu" and "vos" to mean "you." those are old words that you really don't hear anymore in brazil unless you are talking to some 100-year-old man in church or something.

boa sorte (good luck) with the portuguese girl! call her "borboleta" (butterfly), "girassol" (sunflower), "abacaxinha" (little pineapple) or "perola" (pearl). i say those words to the brazilian girls, and they LOVE it because macho guys don't speak like that! remember, say beautiful words to beautiful girls, amigo! nao fale como um cafetao, um cara de rua ou um marinheiro bebido (don't speak like a pimp, a street guy or a drunk sailor).
Or don't speak at all, just watch her. One look tells more than hundred words. :)
Falcao,
is you writning good as your speaking? :)

no, ze da fiel, my writing and reading is better than my speaking. but when i know what i'm talking about and don't have to think about the words, i have a really good brazilian (rio) accent. all the brazilians tell me that.

i'm going to rio in november. i think i'll stay the whole month or five weeks in an apartment. i will take lessons -- and talk to ALL the meninas! (meninas = girls)

i'll email you tonight and tell you about it.
