i saw a movie about hockey the other day. wonder how much they have the right to be that violent.

but in the film, the guy seemed to be employed only for the fight. that could be in that way ?

There are players that play very few minutes and the main reason they are on the team is to be the tough guy and fight. It's not happening as often any more but those kind of players are still on teams.

There was a player named Mike Ricci who, after losing four teeth in a game, actually decided to take the fifth one out. The teeth fell out in a way that there was one hanging down, so he just ripped it out himself and told the team doctors that he lost all five teeth. Easier that way. :D

The third guy is much older and from a different era, but was known for his incredible speed and power of his shot. Lemieux is arguably the most talented player to ever play the sport(along with Wayne Gretzky), and Patrick Roy is the best goalkeeper(goaltender) to ever play.
