In an earlier encounter, Atlas squandered a 2:0 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game as Club América (1-0-1, 4 Points) scored twice to earn a 2:2 draw.

Carlos Morales and Juan Pablo Garcia gave Atlas the edge with goals in the 1st and 65th minutes, respectively, but Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute for Club América and Reinaldo Navia got the equalizer with five minutes remaining in the 2:2 final.

The Prelibertadores tournament continues on Friday (9 January) with Group A action at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas USA, with Morelia facing Santos Laguna at 19:00 and then Toluca playing against Guadalajara at 21:30.
