From BBC Sport:

Houllier sent death threat

Houllier will fight on
Police are investigating a death threat against Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier.
The club confirmed that the threat - sent by letter three weeks ago and opened by Houllier himself - is now the subject of a Merseyside police probe.

A Liverpool spokesman said: "It was worrying enough to involve the police. They are still investigating."

After the recent FA Cup defeat at Portsmouth, insults about Houllier were daubed on the wall of the club's training ground.

But the letter was received before the Portsmouth defeat.

The spokesman added: "It was very unpleasant and because of that we have involved the police in the situation.

"We do not want to over-dramatise the incident, but such letters cannot be ignored."

Houllier has been under pressure for weeks following a disappointing season, but the Liverpool manager has vowed to fight on.

Couldn't agree more, BOSH..

Being frustrated at someone is something.. sending a death threat is totally different!

Reminds me of when I was taking Physics 102 during my college years.. and the coordinator for the course was responsible for one of those massacre mid term exams.. where the average for all physics students was 22/110!! 2 days after the results were out.. he found a letter stapled to his door saying "If the final is anywhere close to that midterm, I'll kill u".. Some how, (coming from someone who had to suffer going through that mid term) that felt OK then ;) Just kidding..

not being cynical but couldn't Houllier have told the police to not make this public?

will this give him added sympathy at a time when he is desperately trying to hang onto his job?

this strikes me as the sort of stunt Posh Spice specialises in,famous people get death threats all the time, you don't need to make a drama out of it.

Agreed, same goes for the Graffitti at Melwood, should of been kept quiet as well as possible. Also although i dont condone death threats, it wasnt actually a death threat. The part they are treating as a death threat is "Get out of Liverpool or else".But what makes them scared is that the letter contained detailed information about his house and his schedule.

well i'd imagine it's common knowledge where he lives, and it's not exactly rocket science working out he drives to Melwood every morning at 9 and comes back home later in the day,is it?

Not being cynical?!? How do you know he didn't? You don't really think he said to the police, 'Oh yes, keep it confidential for three weeks only and bring into the public eye when I'm under more pressure' do you?!?

These 'confidential' matters get out easier than you think.

This should give him added sympathy, how could anyone say anything else? It's another sick threat that is the work of no one but a brain-dead, moronic coward and anyone who can't pick up on that needs their head seeing to.

I can't believe you can turn this on it's head to make him look bad.

I wasn't stating a fact,i was asking the question,i don't think it does any harm,i wouldn't be insensitive enough to ask Houllier it as i have no evidence.

it's a debate forum,so we may as well ask difficult questions otherwise what's the point,i think there is a chance it happened and he thought i'll milk this for all it's worth, people are dishonest bastards especially if they can lose something they love,i wouldn't rule it out at all.

I think we are making too much out of this.

Yes it is a disgraceful act, unless it was sent by a Liverpool supporter I rather keep an open mind.

Prolly some Bluenose kids who should have known better

if he says that,it just shows what a drama queen he is,he could well be playing the sympathy card,if he is that is unforgiveable emotional blackmail on fans that have stood by him well.

imagine the grief he would be getting in Italy,or even Tottenham,he would have had death threats two years ago there.

Simple, he told the police.

Damn him to hell for having the audacity to phone the plod.

Journalists and people hear whispers, police confirm they have visited either Anfield or Melwood (can't remember which) and then THE POLICE issued a statement. Houlliers comments about the event come after questions asked by Journo's during a press conference.

Still slate away if it makes you all feel better.

PS: Neither Parry or the players knew either untill the police started the investigation.

Aww come on CardiffRed you can't go pointing out things like that, it gives a little credibility to the manager. Perish that thought.

Still it's another convenient way for people to slaughter the manager.

Houllier could have told the Police not to go public, yesterday Michael Owen said he got loads of death threats, more or less was blasé about it,saying it happened to most people who were high profile, but most people don't make a song and dance about it.

last week some are suggesting Houllier hadn't cleaned his hands properly and you still see signs of paint remains on his fingernails after the vandalism at Melwood.
