Elano and Co could miss Euro bow

CITY are ready to begin their latest Euro adventure minus some of their star names.

Brazilian playmaker Elano, Croatian defender Vedran Corluka and Swiss midfielder Gelson Fernandes have all yet to report back for duty after spending the summer playing for their countries.

They will join up with the rest of the squad early next week when the party returns from their German training camp.

Ecuador international Felipe Caicedo and Zimbabwe's Benjani are also scheduled to return to Manchester on the same day after their recent World Cup qualifying efforts.

No final decision has been taken about the quintet's UEFA Cup participation against Faroe Island minnows EB Streymur next Thursday but none of them will be risked if manager Mark Hughes believes that they need some work before playing.

He knows he has a big enough squad at his disposal to cover for their absence.

"We have touched on the subject of whether or not they will play but won't come to a conclusion until we see how they are when we get back to England," confirmed Hughes' assistant Mark Bowen from Germany.

"Hopefully, we will have a long campaign in several competitions ahead of us and we don't want to be risking players who are not ready to play."

Meanwhile boss Hughes continues to turn Carrington into the `Dragon's Den' with two more appointments `made in Wales' set to be announced.

Glyn Hodges is tipped to be named reserve team coach with Mike Rigg is poised to become scouting overlord as Hughes continues to revamp the back room staff at City.

Hopefully they'll be fit in time. It'd make sense to play them in the first leg, then rest them for the friendly against Hamburg (which is sandwiched between the fixtures), and maybe rest them at home if we're comfortable. If not I'd play:

-------------Hart
Richards---Dunne--Onuoha--Garrido
------------Hamann
Ireland-----Johnson------Petrov
-----Bozhinov----Sturridge

Subs: Schmeichel, Logan, Ball, Etuhu, Castillo, Evans, Bianchi

We're a bit threadbare, and it demonstrates why we need to sign players. It'd maybe be worth having Weiss onthe bench instead of Bianchi or Evans.

Second goal was really nice. Pretty much a convincing win for City. Not much to say really.

Wasn't expecting anything other than a scoreline similar to that

Didn't watch it, not seen any highlights yet. Second leg is a formality now, lets give Weiss, Mee and Evans a run out.

Yep. Can't be bothered going to Barnsley to watch a formality the other side of the penines. I'm going to Celtic instead next week.

0-0 HT in the home leg

i haven't been watching it and am desperate for a sopcast link...

anyways...0-0 is quite disappointing no matter what the case. supposed to be a relatively strong starting XI too
