The Santigo Bernabeu is not yet rated hight enough to host the CL finals. I believe that after this years renovations they will finally get the 5 star rating needed.

In Madrid, only the calderon has it. Soon to change though.

Uefa Name Venues For 2005 Finals
02/05/2004. The Ataturk Olympic stadium in Istanbul, which plays host to Galatasaray, will host the 2005 Champions League final, Uefa have announced.
It is the first time a Turkish stadium has been selected to host a European final and it was selected ahead of the likes of Paris' Stade de France and Madrid's Vicente Calderon.
Meanwhile, the Uefa Cup final will be played at Sporting Lisbon's Jose Alvalade Stadium after it beat competition from Newcastle's St James' Park and Sunderland's Stadium of Light, amongst others.

real have to travel for a distance. :stress:
turkey lay between asia and euro in geography. :D

It is an 81.000 capacity all-seater stadium :)

The biggest problem is the running track...
The finals will be:

- Istambul: Ataturk (Turkey) for Champions League.
- Lisbon: Jose Alvalade (Portugal) for UEFA Cup.

Personally, I'm not happy with the decission. I can't recall any final in Turkey, so perhaps they already deserved one, but the running track is awful. I recall the Galatasaray-Real Sociedad and the match look so cold compared with the atmosphere of the Ali Sami Yen.

About the Jose Alvalade, nice stadium, but Portugal already has the Euro 2004.

Anyway, congratulations to Istambul and Lisbon.

yes, unfortunately the stands are not close to the pitch and are not really steep (like in ASY), they are wide...
