I've taken out the players who will return to parent clubs from loans obviously, which are Omar Mascarell, Jesse Lingard, Tom Ince and Darren Bent.

I've also taken out the out of contract players, as I don't expect any will be offered contracts, as they haven't been so far. These are Lee Naylor, Mark O'Brien, Zak Whitbread, Tom Naylor, Shaun Barker and John Eustace.

Whitbread and Eustace are the only 2 you would consider keeping, but as both have had injury problems this season, and both the wrong side of 30, it's probably time to move them on.

I'm sure there will be more movement in and out of the squad, layers we want to move out, and some obvious players clubs will want to try and take off of us.

There's plenty of room for improvement in that squad, I really hope it's dome with permanent transfers though, and not a team full of loan players again.

We need a new goalie. Lee Grant has butter fingers.

We need a right back as a matter of urgency. But a whole new back line would be nice.

An experienced leader in midfield, and another centre forward should also be priorities.

David Marshall has been mentioned for the keeper, and I think he'd be a great signing.

But who would be top of the shopping list for the other positions?

Lewis Dunk for centre half?

Marshall and Dunk are both signing I'd be happy with. Despite finishing 20th Brighton didn't concede many goals, a couple less than we did. Dunk and Halford were key to that.

There's actually quite a few good players around the championship at the moment.

Highlighted the players I want to be in the squad at the start of next season, and that's with Hanson, Rawson Ashe Hendrick as back up players really. Some of the other academy players I've left out for now.

That only leaves 5 players, and a team like this.

Goalkeeper

Right Back
Left back
Albentosa
Centre Back

Thorne
Hughes
Centre Midfield

Russell
Martin
Left Wing

Say we put Marshall in as keeper, as he's been linked already. Let's try and fill in the gaps with who we would like, being realistic of course :)

Who do we think then jimbo? And Hajduk Splitt. After signing Albentosa we are now looking further afield for players, not just the uk like under Clough.

Hmm. Lewis Dunk at centre back is one I'd look at.

There's a few options for midfield and left wing. Alex Pritchard from Brentford would be a great signing. Alex Mowatt from Leeds, though he doesn't fit the experienced tag really.

No full backs spring immediately to mind, will have to have a think/do some research :D

We should be thinking of a back up centre for Martin too.

No not sure on full backs, Bournemouth and middlesbrough a full backs seemed good, but they're unlikely to move.

The exodus begins, Jamie Ward is leaving the club.

Been an excellent servant for four years, left some great memories. Notably the individual equaliser against Forest when we were down to 10 men. Had ability on the ball, and played with passion and commitment. Been a real fans favourite, so good luck to him, wherever he goes.

Yeah, done well over the last few years, but couldn't get a game the last few months. The injury cost him his place earlier in the season, and that's been his trouble. Too many injuries.

We will definately be in the market for a wide player or two then.

Possible wide players to bring in, Pritchard and Jota from brentford (not if they get promoted though), Gudmundsson from Charlton.

Eustace will be good for his leadership, as long as he's going to be fit enough to play. Hopefully a fit George Thorne will be first choice DM, though when we play teams like Middlesbrough, a chance to play Thorne and Eustace together could be a good option.

Not sure about this quote from schteve

"All we have to do is keep this group together, add to it what we can and we will be ready to again next season."

Not the most encouraging statement. We need probably 6 new players at least, not we'll see what we can scrape together. I hope it's just McClaren being cautious in front of the media.

I do hope in private, McClaren is thinking there is more needs doing than a little tinker here and there with just a couple of players. 7 or 8 at least. It will probably be 2, a load of teenagers for the development squad, and as many loans as possible again.
