The Sad State Of The Serie A

Inter, the Italian leaders losing to a team like Feyenoord really shows the sad state of the Serie A.

I can't believe that such a battlehardened, experienced manager like Cuper, who has had so much success with Valencia in the Champions League the last couple of years, would underestimate such an opponent.

did u even watch the first leg?? did u see how many chances ventola missed??? did u realize that we were forced to play ferraro (who is only 18 and hasn't played a game until today) at right back and dibiagio in defense in today's game?? yes, cuper underestimated feyenoord but it was not entirely his fault...can u blame cuper because cordoba scored an own goal??? i only blame cuper for playing our reserves in the first leg...
Carson...wow..almost 15000 posts already.:) (i thought that you have a GF) :howler:

I dont think Cúper underestimate Feye...he just thinks that Scudetto is more important and he is so right...some of our key players needed rest and they are back on sunday.
So what that we lost Feye in Uefa...so what...it was kind of good, because now we have only one think to do...and now we can focus on that one.

It doesn't matter how many chances Ventola misses. Good teams always find a way to win any series. And that is exactly what I mean't. Cuper underestimated by playing his reserves in the first leg.

And that is my point. Great times can win their domestic league AND European titles. Lately, Italian teams are saying that the Scudetto is more important. Is that an excuse? What about AC Milan and Juventus of the early and mid 90's? I don't remember them saying that.
That´s because they won CHAMPIONS LEAGUE titles, and that tournament is equally important to Serie A teams as the scudetto. The Uefa cup has lost a lot of status since champions league was expanded and Italy for example have four spots in that tournament. Because of that Italian teams no longer care that much about winning the Uefa cup, which is a bit sad of course. Personally I would prefer it if two teams maximum from each country could play in the champions league, then the uefa cup would become more prestigeous and there wouldn´t be so many meaningless matches in the champions league. This will never happen though, becuse too much money is involved and the big clubs in europe want it the way it is now.

Yeah! I think it's all here why we didn't get into the Uefa final!!!

Cuper thought we could score 2-3 goals in the first leg with the reserves!!!

Cuper: first you win the first leg matches with the titolars (Vieri-Recoba-Dalmat-Seedorf) then you let them rest in the second leg!!!

Is it so difficult??) :D

u can say that's an excuse...but think about it, vieri is an injury prone...if we played him in a game and he got injuried and missed an important game in serie A, that would affect our chase for the scudetto..great teams can find a way to win the games...but unfortunately, i don't think we are that good and can afford to lose vieri...

yup...it would have been better if we could advance to the UEFA Final...but if i had to choose one, i'd rather win the scudetto...we are gonna play the CL next season anyway...it would be an honor to win the UEFA Cup...but CL will bring us much more $$$$...by qualifying to the CL, we'll have to win the scudetto...that's something we haven't won in 13 years...
inter has some good excuses to not perform what they can. It's still a pity to throw it away like that though, purposely or not. Kallon missed an easy goal. oh well....

But surely as hell milan shouldn't be able to find excuses for their neglegence in UEFA. But then you can't really make a come back when you are down 4 in the first leg.
This is always the excuse Italians teams give...no wonder we command no more respect from the other clubs..We're always saying that our league is tough..etc..but come on..it's getting old..no wonder so many ppl have been saying we're arrogant..I'd perfectly agree..

As for Champs League...we just can't keep playing the same style of football we do..it;s the Italian style if u know what i mean..It may still work in the international area, but don't work no more at Europe.Games are becoming faster and much more possesion of ball is neeeded..We keep swinging balls away with no purpose at all to the outer field hoping for somebody of the same team to get to it..at least thats the way i see it....
We are not arrogant we are just stating the obvious but we Inter will win the cl and scudetto next season.

I understand your logic. But if that is the case, teams shouldn't even bother with the Uefa Cup then. Why not just concentrate on the domestic league from the outset once eliminated from the Champions League. Teams would be more fresh that way.
Inter:
It really was a shame that we didn't manage to go through to the finals. I think the reason why we didn't was that we played the reserves in San Siro. Wheter or not that was a good desicion can be discussed forever cuz we don't know what the "first team" could have done.

Champions league:
What concerns me though is not that Inter got kicked out in the semifinals. What concerns me is that Parma and Lazio both got kicked out of champions league before the so-called meaningless games where finished and that Roma and Juve crashed before the quaterfinals.

This fact sure makes me think. These 4 teams all played with the best they had, and judging from the squads both Lazio, Roma and Juventus should have been able to poss a thread to every other team. Why did they fail? What is their excuse?

I don't know if we could have done any better. Afterall Juve, Roma and Inter seem to be almost equal when it comes to quality this season.

Recovery?:
I think italian football will recover once the teams can't afford buying all the big names. When this happens the players will get to know eachother and that will result in better tactical understanding and more determination. The devil of italian football is the presidents who wish to do good. All the new players who come in and out of serie A every single season destroy the harmony.

Easy. Most teams don't know which part of the table they'll find themselves at the end of the season. So they can never rule out the trophies they'll be aiming for at the end.

I recall that Milan were one of the the odds-on favourites at the start of the season (above Inter as well). But they aren't in the running for the scudetto anymore (in fact they haven't been for quite a while this season :) ). So they decided to salvage something from a disappointing season (NOT disappointing for me for some reason, however! :D) by going for the UEFA Cup. Even forgetting completely about the Cup from the start would not preclude the league position they have now by any means.

Does that answer your question?
